Bergdahl released, but there is a dark cloud in the silver lining

There is nothing more awesome than knowing that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has been released by the Taliban after serving in captivity for five years.

Bergdahl represents the American fighting spirit. Has survived his ordeal. And he will return home to Idaho with honor.

Having received training on how to survive captivity several times, I remember that we were always taught to maintain hope that no matter what our government would come get us. That we would never be forgotten. That, at some point, we would regain our freedom.

That has happened today.

However, has there been a cost with the actions taken to secure Bergdahl’s release?

The cost of Bergdahl’s release is five senior Taliban commanders who were held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Rep. Buck McKeon, chairman, and Sen. James Inhofe, ranking member, of their respective Armed Service Committees issued a fairly reasoned note of caution:

Physically strong enough to walk a long distance after his release and mentally strong enough to communicate with people on his transport.

FWIW.

“In executing this transfer, the President also clearly violated laws which require him to notify Congress thirty days before any transfer of terrorists from Guantanamo Bay and to explain how the threat posed by such terrorists has been substantially mitigated. Our joy at Sergeant Berghdal’s release is tempered by the fact that President Obama chose to ignore the law, not to mention sound policy, to achieve it.”

And nobody will do anything about it, thus validating Obama move toward Kingship from President.

Today the President got a “two-fer.”

He looks like a hero to his fans, regardless of his lack of interest in the VA.

And he released five more from Gitmo. He keeps this up and his goal of closing Gitmo will be reached. Win win.

This only happened at this time because of the VA scandal. Obama could have had this guy back a long time ago.

Obama needed a good moment and this is why this has happened at this point.

Who knows what evil the released terrorists will impose after a year. I really don’t think Obama or anyone in this admin has given that any thought. They only deal with what is politically expedient. They can always cook up an excuse if the release of these bad guys takes more lives.

Didn’t you know Obama is above the law?

It appears he really is. He hasn't suffered any penalty for breaking dozens of them and his base and the media still love him.

“Today the President got a “two-fer.””

I am OK with that when we get our people back or injustices made right.............but I still have a problem with things being done via “above the law” so to speak

I would surmise that obama’s surprise visit to “boost the troops” in Afghanistan involved some suitcases stuffed with cash for the tolley-bon to facilitate this deal. Karzai refused to meet obama at Bagram because of “short notice”. ha.

"And he will return home to Idaho with honor. "

I'm not so sure about that.....wasn't he the guy who "wandered off"? There is a little more I need to know about those circumstances before I consider him honorable.

Lotsa pluses here for soetoro.

1. Flips the bird to Republicans and Conservatives in Congress.

2. Blows a kiss to his lefty base and moHAMmadens.

3. Terrorist fist bump to...well...the terrorists.

4. Sends message to the military that he'll do whatever it takes to bring every man home and that the VA thingee is not his fault because, see, he really cares about everyone in the military and it's a phony scandal anyhow.

5. Gives the msm a "Look, a squirrel!" Moment to divert attention away from the VA,Benghazi, the IRS, economy,NSA, surrender in Iraq and Afghanistan...

You “assume” wrongly.

I know it's hard to keep up in the ugly morass of any war.

There is a question regarding his status as a captive of the enemy, or something else a bit more complicated.

I hesitate to opine either way, since much of the available information is not considered trustworthy.

Better to wait for verified facts, and that might mean a much longer wait, beyond what is obviously politically expedient for POTUS, currently under fire domestically for his failures at the VA.
And yes indeed, I am just that cynical! With very good reason.

Well, at least the Obama administration didn’t out a CIA agent like Richard Armitage did during Bush’s time in office. Oh wait. My bad. They did that just last week and NOT A PEEP OUT OF THE MEDIA ABOUT THIS TREASONOUS ACTION. There was a special prosecutor assigned to investigate the Valerie Plame affair but outing the CIA station chief in Afghanistan was just a “mistake” and nobody says a thing.

This administration operates outside the law and the Constitution all the time. This violation of the law in releasing the five most dangerous Gitmo detainee terrorists without notifying Congress is the second major violation of law in the last week.

But where are the calls from our elected representatives to impeach this Chicago thug? If these violations don’t constitute high crimes and misdemeanors, what does? Obama and his minions might as well be running Continuing Criminal Enterprise than managing the executive branch.

Agreed and yet, supposedly according to Bergdahl's dad his son was having trouble remembering how to speak English??? How did the father know this? Did the captors let him call home once a week? Very good post by wtd, post 10 here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3162270/posts?page=20#20 •Of particular note is the photo of his father where he addressed his son and the public: "Bergdahl said that his son was having trouble speaking English after spending so much time in Taliban activity. He said a common Arabic phrase uttered by Muslims before giving a speech, and a few words that appeared to be in Pashto. "In the name of God, the most gracious, the most merciful," Bob Bergdahl said in Arabic." •Bob Bergdahl tweet: Robert Bergdahl ‏@bobbergdahl @ABalkhi I am still working to free all Guantanamo prisoners. God will repay for the death of every Afghan child, ameen!

According to twitchy, Bergdahl’s father tweeted that he was “still working to free all Gitmo prisoners”, and that “God would repay for the death of every afghan child”.
