OBAMA’S REICHSTAG FIRE MOMENT TAKES THE STAGE

Sen. Ted Cruz dropped a bombshell, as you will see in this video, where he emphatically states that the United States Senate this year will vote on a Constitutional amendment to effectively repeal the First Amendment. This is Senate Joint Resolution 19 that Se. Cruz is referring to. It proposes an amendment to the Constitution of the United States relating to contributions and expenditures intended to affect elections.

This vote will give the Congress the plenary power and unlimited authority to regulate political speech. The door that they plan on using revolves around campaign finance reform, but will extend to all areas of political speech across the board.

“When you think it can’t get any worse, it does,” Cruz said. “This year, I’m sorry to tell you, the United States Senate is going to be voting on a constitutional amendment to repeal the First Amendment.”

“I am telling you — I am not making this up. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has announced the Senate Democrats are scheduling a vote on a constitutional amendment to give Congress the authority to regulate political speech because elected officials have decided they don’t like it when the citizenry has the temerity to criticize what they’ve done,” he added.

No. The Supreme Court is not involved in the amendment process.

The amendment process is clearly written in the Constitution. Every conservative should know the Constitution. It's not a difficult document, unless you let a lawyer read it.

Jonah Goldberg is RIGHT!

Now how do we rid ourselves of them , now that America knows who and what they are?

Does Cruz advize impeachment of Holder, Obama and others?

Correct. The Constitution just enumerates that right. The same with the bearing arms.

"... I know this is a stupid question, but don't Constitutional Amendments have to be ratified by two-thirds majority of the states?"

The Constitution's Article V indicates that amendments to the Constitution actually have to be ratified by 3/4 of the states.

After watching the video, Harvard Law School-indocrinated Cruz was reasonably giving the wrong impression that the Senate can amend the Constitution. So I'm more dissapointed with Cruz then I already was. And of course the constitutionally ignorant "conservative" crowd that he seemed to be addressing was seemingly swallowing every word that he said.

Yep, McLame will love it. It’s bigger and better than McCain/Feingold and SCOTUS won’t mess with it because our first black president will have signed it.

3/4 of states required to ratify/

2/3s of Senate required to propose.

It’s a long shot but it is dangerous because it seems to focus on campaign funds. But where is free speech more important than in the political arena? So Ted Cruz is spot on as usual to call it what it is, a repeal or neutering of the First Amendment.

It’s a disgrace the way the scum now infesting our country will trade our freedom for freebies and handouts. A lot of good people died for us to have that freedom. It didn’t belong to the freeloading bottom feeders to give it away.

They've already effectively taken our speech.

NO ONE HAS YET BEEN PUNISHED FOR THE IRS SCANDAL

That said, I'm sure most of the Senators voting for this will be re-elected. And look for the assmunches Stewart and Colbert sing the praises of this to their unthinking audiences...

The Constitution provides that an amendment may be proposed either by the Congress with a two-thirds majority vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate or by a constitutional convention called for by two-thirds of the State legislatures. None of the 27 amendments to the Constitution have been proposed by constitutional convention. The Congress proposes an amendment in the form of a joint resolution. Since the President does not have a constitutional role in the amendment process, the joint resolution does not go to the White House for signature or approval. The original document is forwarded directly to NARA’s Office of the Federal Register (OFR) for processing and publication. The OFR adds legislative history notes to the joint resolution and publishes it in slip law format. The OFR also assembles an information package for the States which includes formal “red-line” copies of the joint resolution, copies of the joint resolution in slip law format, and the statutory procedure for ratification under 1 U.S.C. 106b.
