Gun Seller Dropped By Bank Rejects Their Attempt ‘To Kiss And Make Up’

A Massachusetts gun store owner says it’s “too late” for a bank to mend a relationship that it broke.

Mark Cohen, who owns Powderhorn Outfitters, a Hyannis, Mass. gun retailer, said that his longtime bank, TD Bank, refused to extend a line of credit because of the business he is in.

Cohen explained what happened in an interview with The Daily Caller on Friday.

“This year I went to apply for a line of credit, and the bank manager came by the store,” said Cohen, adding that he’s known the bank manager for over 20 years.

“Mark, I apologize,” she said, according to Cohen, “your credit history is great, but the bank is turning you down because you sell guns.”

Discrimination? If I had the money (BIG IF) I'd open the "2nd Amendment Bank and Trust" or maybe the "2nd Amendment Credit Union" and tell all those other losers to KMA!

Good for him, I’m sure there are plenty of banks out there who would gladly give credit to him.

BitCoin/DogeCoin/LiteCoin are good alternatives, and I would be willing to bet that firearm retailers will take to accepting these currencies in the future if banks keep up with these shenanigans.

Is it legal, for a bank to discriminate against a legal business such as a gun business????

I don’t know the law, but, this strikes me as something that may not be legal. Can you imagine a bank having a blanket policy of not taking business from (fill in the blank, any legally operating business)?

Whether it’s illegal discrimination, I don’t know. But it clearly is singling out those in a legally operating type of business and declining said business.

My point exactly. We are forcing anyone in the wedding business to take business from those involved with homosexual marriage. They are now allowed to decline to provide such services.

Based on that, can’t we compel banks to do business with gun businesses, in the same manner in which they deal with all other businesses???

I meant to say they are “NOT” allowed to decline to provide such services. Wish we had a way to correct posts here.

VERY good point - this needs to go viral - the “Choke Point” - a thinly disguised attack to put gun shops out of business - before it puts too many out of business.

Since when does the gov’t have the right to tell banks who they can and cannot do business with?

Ph wait! Yeah- they got away with that back with the home loans to unqualified people - (A MAJOR part of why we are where we are in this country)

If a bank doesn’t play ball, their charter to do,business could be threatened.

Huh? In a true free market, yes a bank could pick and choose their customers. A bank could choose not to accept a gay bar’s payroll account, or an individual account for a guy who has tattoos from his shoulder to his fingertips and works at the local chop shop, etc.

Money talks. I hope any and all gun owners withdraw their money from TD Bank and go elsewhere with their business.

Plenty of other banks out there.

Chase is on this too. They were off my list quite some time ago, even before they adopted a policy of not accepting cash deposits over the counter.

Operated under a cloud of secrecy by the Department of Justice and in coordination with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Operation Choke Point forces banks to keep a closer eye on companies in industries that are deemed “high risk”, including gun and ammunition dealers, coin dealers... But lawmakers have paid increased attention to the initiative because they believe it ends up ensnaring legitimate businesses by “choking off” their access to banking services – the lifeblood of any business.

Democrat control freaks use this tactic to close down legal businesses they don't 'approve of'. When Republicans get in office we should 'keep a closer eye' on all liberal businesses. I'm sure the effers at the New York Times, LA Times and Washington Post would 'find their outrage' if we acted like this..

Try discriminating against abortion providers to see if there are any laws... because if there are, you’ll be sued in a heart-beat...
