HAILEY, Idaho It looked as if it was going to be a big weekend here in the Wood River Valley in Central Idaho
But when news began to spread Saturday that Bowe Bergdahl was finally free it became a far more momentous weekend than anyone could have imagined in a community where Sergeant Bergdahls fate has been a central fact of life since his capture by the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2009.
Its really, really amazing and incredible, fantastic news, said Molly Goodyear, who was getting lunches at Atkinsons Market for children playing soccer with Sawtooth United under-13 girls team on Saturday when she got a text with the news.
You cant go anywhere in Hailey without thinking about it, she said. There was a sticker for Bowe at the deli counter. I remember thinking about how long it has been. Even in 2011, it seemed so long. Its going to be a long, hard reintegration for him, I think. But this is such a great community for him to return to. People will do so much for him.
In churches on Sunday and among the steady stream of residents sharing information at Zaneys River Street Coffee House, Sergeant Bergdahls release dominated all talk. The focus was both on what he had gone through and on what they all could expect in the future.
Debbie ONeill and her daughter, Stefanie, have been leading much of the public vigil and are organizers of a second-annual event scheduled for June 28 that was to be called Bring Bowe Back 2014, intended to focus attention to the soldiers plight. Carole King is scheduled to perform along with Travis Hardy.

I can’t imagine where this story will end. I fear that the reality is so different from the hype that the hypocrisy level could prove pathological to normal people.
setting up a welcome for a traitor.
shouldn’t he be headed for the brig?
Will they post all of his emails and his dad’s tweets around town?
These folks don’t realize this guy is a traitor — Yet... They are into the Obammy hype of the moment...
Feel free to add more
Where’s the Kansas Church group that likes to demonstrate at funerals for soldiers? How about the Aryan Brotherhood people?
A good indication that this hero's welcome is doing a 180.

Carole King, who sang “You’ve Got a Friend” for Fidel Castro.
Tells me all I need to know.
Here’s what I think happened: Islamic extremists threatened to set off a suitcase nuke in the us unless we freed those 5 prisoners from Gitmo. Obama had to have a politically acceptable pretext to release them so he broke the law and pretended this guy needed to be freed even though this guy didn’t give a rip. Obama had to BREAK THE LAW and release the prisoners because congress would have asked too many questions. Now that Islamic terrorists KNOW Obama can be blackmailed we’re in deep doo doo.
celebrate what? .... the deaths of 6 Americans looking for this guy? the release of 5 terrorists? the whole thing is sickening ....
These people are morons...celebrating a coward and a traitor!
If they had a suitcase nuke in the U.S. they’d ask for more than just five guys back. We usually kill them a dozen at a time as it is.
Ha! That will just about be par-for-the-course, giving a big hero celebration to a deserter.
America has entered full-blown madness. Postal stamps honoring a pedophile. A marxist president. Bakers forced to make fag-wedding cakes. A culture that gives us Anthony Weiner showing off his member, a lizard-tongued Miley Cyrus and her foam-finger, an NFL recruit slobbering cake off his homo lover’s mouth.
So, yeah, a big parade and hero’s welcome for a deserter. Makes sense, considering the sheer insane-asylum that America has become.
What Mosque will the event be held out?
Is there not a Mosque in Haley?
