2010 report says Bergdahl converted to Islam, taught bomb-making, according to Taliban captor

A 2010 report by the Daily Mail quoted a Taliban captor of Bowe Bergdahl, the American soldier released in a deal announced this weekend in exchange for five Guantanamo Bay detainees, stating Bergdahl converted to Islam and was teaching Taliban fighters bomb-making skills.

The report came after about one year that Bergdahl had deserted his post in June 2009 while based in eastern Afghanistan.

At least six American soldiers reportedly lost their lives in attempts to return Bergdahl to his unit.

The captor, who called himself Haji Nadeem, said Bergdahl taught basic ambush training as well as how to take apart a cell phone and convert it into a remote control for a roadside bomb, he told the Sunday Times.

It has not been confirmed whether Bergdahl converted and if so, whether it was voluntarily or under the pressure of authorities to prevent getting killed.

I’ll bet Bergdahl has the Al Qaeda Good Conduct Medal.

I’d like to add it’s a sad day when I can’t figure out who to believe,,the Taliban or Obama.

Just ask yourself how many times each has lied to you.

I doubt that ht taught them bomb making per se, but he may have showed them how to conceal IEDs better and revealed the procedures used by US troops in guarding against them.

I’m sure this was known to the military, too. I read that after he disappeared, all troops were restricted to the base unless on patrol for several months while they revised their security procedures and anti-IED strategies.

Fellow Soldiers Call Bowe Bergdahl a Deserter, Not a Hero

"I was pissed off then, and I am even more so now with everything going on," said former Sgt. Matt Vierkant, a member of Bergdahl's platoon when he went missing on June 30, 2009. "Bowe Bergdahl deserted during a time of war, and his fellow Americans lost their lives searching for him."

At least six soldiers were killed in subsequent searches for Bergdahl, and many soldiers in his platoon said attacks seemed to increase against the United States in Paktika province in the days and weeks following his disappearance.

Former Pfc. Jose Baggett, 27, of Chicago, was also in Blackfoot Company and said he was close to two men "killed because of his (Bergdahl's) actions."

"He walked off," Baggett told CNN. "He left his guard post. Nobody knows if he defected or he's a traitor or he was kidnapped. What I do know is, he was there to protect us, and instead he decided to defer from America and go and do his own thing. I don't know why he decided to do that, but we spend so much of our resources, and some of those resources were soldiers' lives."

"A huge thing in-country is not building patterns. Well when you are looking for a person everyday that creates a pattern. While searching for him, ambushes and IEDs picked up tremendously. Enemy knew we would be coming. IEDs started being placed more effectively in the coming weeks. Ambushes were more calculated, cover and concealment was used," Cody tweeted.

Moreover, other operations were put on hold while the search for Bergdahl was made a top priority, according to officers who served in Afghanistan in that time. Manpower and assets -- such as scarce surveillance drones and helicopters -- were redirected to the hunt. The lack of assets is one reason the closure of a dangerous combat outpost, COP Keating, was delayed. Eight soldiers were killed at COP Keating before it was ultimately closed.

One soldier with the 509th Regiment, a sister unit of the 501st, told CNN that after Bergdahl disappeared, the U.S. Army essentially was told to lock down the entire province of Paktika. He described sitting in the middle of a field with his platoon, vulnerable, with capabilities and personnel mismanaged throughout the region. Different platoons ran out of water, food and ammunition.

I heard you tube video of father who was talking to Taliban and telling them how he sympathized with the loss of lives, he had names, general this and that, he said he understood what they were doing and why, blah blah. He thanked them for taking care of his while their prisoner, just praised them up and down...BUT Never once did this piece of crap say anything about the loss of lives of fellow soldiers who died trying to find his son.

Worse yet- Obama, while standing there with the Father, never said the names of the soldiers who died looking for the deserter.

A Pakistani woman was on the savage radio, she is American, born in Pakistan and she said what the father said in Pakistani language was some sort of code message to Taliban.

Yes. Frankly,I don’t know how anyone in the military can even stand to see Obama’s face. It must be terrible to have a CIC who has betrayed the troops this way.

How would an E-3 rifleman know how to do any of that? He knows battle drill 1A, 2, 3, and 4. That’s about it. And even then, he’s got the broad strokes, certainly not a deep understanding of all the moving parts.

Obama: I’ll give you five terrorists.

Taliban: We’ll give you one terrorist.

A report from the hospital in Germany that appeared in a British paper today said that Bergdahl is refusing to speak English - and that he had become a Muslim. And that was not information from the Taliban.

Obama needs to be impeached and as soon as possible. Unfortunately that means not until the next Congress takes over, assuming the idiot Republicans manage to win and find the testicular fortitude to do it.

In the meantime, EVERYTHING POSSIBLE needs to be done to block this monster at every turn he takes. He is hell bent on destroying America. His motives stem from malice, not incompetence.

I agree completely and it looks like many of the Repibs are doing everything they can, with the limited power they have, to stop this POS.
The other huge obstacle is we also have to fight the media

Doesn’t much matter now.

Beg to differ.

POTUS traded small enemy for big enemy.

CROSSED THE LINE

I think there is little question but that he deserted. I think there is no hard evidence that he collaborated except for the fact that he still has his head. I think it highly dubious that he could teach these mooks anything about bomb making. I think it is quite possible that he could teach them quite a lot about our patrol tactics.

I also think that we have had eyes on him for quite a period of time during his stay with the Taliban and all of these questions have already been answered. Which makes this whole affair unbelievably stupid.
