Executive Power Grab: Obama to Announce New Plans Forcing Electricity Rates to Skyrocket

When President Obama ran for office in 2008, he promised he'd implement new policies that would force electricity rate to "necessarily" skyrocket.

Obama: My Plan Makes Electricity Rates Skyrocket

Here we are six years later and President Obama is set to announce new, major regulations on power plants in the name of climate change. The New York Timesis calling it the boldest move ever made by a president to address the issue.

The Obama administration is set to announce a rule Monday to limit carbon emissions in thousands of fossil-fuel burning plants across the country, a cornerstone of President Obama’s climate-change agenda and his first-term promise to reduce such emissions by 17 percent by 2020.

The Environmental Protection Agency will ask existing plants to cut pollution by 30 percent by 2030, according to people familiar with the proposal who shared the details with The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, since they have not been officially released.

Over at HotAir, Erika Johnsen describes new regulations as "uncharted waters" for the EPA, which arguably under the Obama administration has already vastly expanded its authority, constitutional or not. Further, the EPA has set up the new regulations strategically in expectation they'll be sued.

Leave it to the Obama Environmental Protection Agency to plumb the heretofore untested depths of regulatory legerdemain to justify their environmentalist central planning.

The Obama administration’s forthcoming regulations on existing power plants — i.e., the main course of their proffered climate-change menu, set for release this week — were always going to spark a whole host of legal challenges no matter what provisions they used for their justification. The negative economic impact the new rules will have on a bunch of states and industries is certainly going to make it worth their while, and part of the EPA’s task in devising the rules was to find the best way possible to protect them from these challenges.

Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are already pushing back against the measure, calling Obama's EPA power move just another episode in the ongoing war on coal an blue-collar workers.

President Barack Obama has "set out to kill coal" with his plans for cutting carbon emissions regulations like his proposed national energy tax, Sen. Mike Enzi said Saturday.

"We all want clean air and clean water," Wyoming's Enzi said in this week's GOP address. "We don’t want costly regulations that make little or no difference, that are making things less affordable. Republicans want electricity and gas when you need it, at a price you can afford.”

Keep working America, you're going to need to in order to pay for your new electricity costs.

Report (not me) from upstate NY, two months of winter, emery utilities combined for 1500 sf $1,700. A pay plan, plus April at $500.

Not a peep about Obama. But the college educated gougee tells us that with global warming, the jersey shore, where the rest of the family lives, will see a ten foot rose in sea level over the next ten years

The answer, ‘that’s what they say. I don’t think so’

Response, ‘grrr. It oh eh eh eh yes it certainly is oh oh oh i just can’t talk about it!’

It’ll go way up and they’ll still blame bush and vote d

But you know, I lived there and voted for Reagan. He won that state

He did.

Why has Congress not even attempted to stop these diktats? Only Congress can make law.

Who knows, maybe they are a bunch of traitors too.

our founding fathers put up with a lot less tyranny from King George than we are from this communist monster Obama

One of the differences, is that the Brits had 4 or 5,000 mile supply lines, back to England. Here, the supply lines for this evil government, are a lot less. I am becoming more and more convinced, that the military WILL fire on American civilians, and drones will take out many patriots as well. It will not be pretty, but I think we are already beyond the tipping point. I wish it was different, but I think not.

Cain, Bachmann, Gingrich and Perry all looked good. (Maybe not Perry, God love him, and he’s an o k gov), so did Santorum

Romney never did. He slammed all of these people and I KNEW he would do the same to BO and I was correct. Two days ago he was on batting his eyes and smirking about BO being a nice fellow just misguided, not evil lik Gingrich, Santorum, Perry, Bachmann...

He does not look good now

He looks like the person who ushered this in and enabled it even after Benghazi

His smile does not cover up the nerve the chutzpah the contempt he has to show his used car salesman face

The GOPe is so much as responsible for this as is the media, Hollywood and the gimmeestuffs

No way are they taking over

Mississippi had netter go tea party to discourage the GOP because there are at least twice as many no three times as any IMHO Of course, won’t vote GOPers as there were not voting for Romney

"We are to blame for Romney winning the primary."

So are you saying even NOW after six years of Obama that Romney could have been worse? Really?

Maybe you not know, but liberals do, even having the worst winner at the dance is better than the loser. The winner is able to change the republic we live in when we let him.

And we did!

Any conservative or republican would have been better than the scum of a leftist we are saddled with now!

He will only get worse, and the republic will be even more at risk than it is now.

What is for sure, those 4 million voters who did not vote against Obama, VOTED FOR OBAMA, and that was the plan of the left.

It worked... only those children who did not vote against him are the real scum who should not play big peoples games, like voting, just be truthful and line up with the evil that is the left.

I meant I knew that Romney would not slam BO even close to the way he did the republicans

He said there were 47% who would never vote for him

He was right. The faggy wimpy pundits freaked oh oh oh he can’t say that he’ll never win

Great advice right?

He groveled like a cartoon rat

Why? He was right

He wanted those voters. As soon as that happens, you know they’ve jumped over the net and have joined the other side competing on their court where they’ll never win - plus, that’s how they’d govern

No. Conservatives would have taken any one of the others than Romney. The others should’ve seen Romney’s money and backing ad decided to consolidate

Are they flawed ? Yes. Any one who points out their shortcomings is a media loving liberal sympathizer. Even Romney wouldn’t have left diplomat staff to die nor let the va health system falter this badly

"This guy is just waiting for someone to finally say “stop it!”."

No he is not, he is counting on the yawn he is getting with his next move AGAINST our republic. He revels in his slap to the founders he gives every day.

lol

If the candidate could not attract the votes, there is no one else to blame.

Where were you on this? Cain's crotch got him in trouble. Bachmann was a nutcase and still is. Gingrich made a PSA at one time that made some people mad, and the deacons frowned on his marital history. Perry couldn't remember his own program on national tv. So where were you?

I held my nose and voted for Mittens. Not that it mattered, this being Taxachusetts. I scorn all who did otherwise! They share the blame for the two-time Won!

Where were you?

It is not congress but Obama has won with just the senate, the presidency, and SCOTUS. Add in the various administrative offices and all the administrative laws they have passed since O and the left has taken control.

The house is the only thing that has saved our country from total subjugation to the left. It is not much, but has been very tough with all the rest of government and the MSM working against them... and us.

It all comes down to the Senate.

An impeachable offense is whatever a majority of the House and two thirds of the Senate say it is. No judicial review (but the Chief[L] gets to count the votes wearing an extra-fancy robe).

The first is easily attainable, I would hope. Not so much the second.

So you are saying there was NO choice to vote for anyone but O or NOT VOTING?

That is EXACTLY what the left was counting on. So to you there was NO OTHER choice? That is what it sounds like. There was a choice and it was NOT to vote FOR Obama or vote for obama by not voting for the opposition to him. A "no" vote was a vote for Obama and a vote against our republic as the founders left it for us.

Or at least to those who voted FOR our country and republic.

The rest are children and leftists by action or lack of action.,...and they showed their true stripes in the last election. Shame on them.

I’d love to see the liberals opening their electric bills in a few years. Of course, it’ll be the republicans’ fault.

Yes GeronL and sadly those who did NOT vote against Obama voted for him. In this big kids game of politics the sides select one person to run, but if that person is not good, big people need to band together to keep the other guy out, 'til they can win. But they do NOT CEDE the victory to the other side.

Basic social studies in grade school should have shown all this fact. The liberals seemed to get it. Many on our side did not get it, and missed the elementary school class covering it.

We are left wondering who missed those basic classes or....left wondering what their real leanings are?

A whole country brought to its knees by the race card. The GOPe is scared to death of being called racist and The Media has them convinced that White racism is at the forefront of America’s concerns.

"......the real culprit is the US Congress......"

Actually , in 2007 SCOTUS ruled that CO2 was a pollutant and told EPA to regulate it with the Clean Air Act.

Bush, then Senator Obama, and essentially everyone wanted Congress to pre-empt EPA and enact legislation to regulate CO2. In 2008 Congress debated Cap and Trade supported by the GOP versus Cap and Tax supported by the dems. The GOP won with Cap and Trade so Congress would enact in 2009.

But the House Cap and Trade bill in 2009 failed for several different reasons. This legislation was much more stringent than what Obama is implementing. It would have applied to probably 13,000 companies in the US including cement kilns, refineries, steel mills.

Then in 2010 the Senate tried to pass a scaled back version that applied only to power plants but it also failed. Obama's plan is not much different from what the Senate proposed.

Everybody is complaining about this but the 2007 SCOTUS decision applied to all sources of CO2 including mobile sources(tail pipes). Congress' attempts and Obama's regs deal only with stationary sources.

In 2009, Obama, key members of Congress, the auto industry, and the oil industry agreed to raise CAFE standards to reduce CO2 emissions from tail pipes. This is going to cost you more than reducing CO2 emissions from power plants.
