NEW YORK -- A man with a kitchen knife stabbed two young children, one fatally, in an elevator in a New York City apartment building on Sunday evening, police said.
Police found Prince Joshua Avitto, 6, and a 7-year-old girl with stab wounds to their torsos at the building in Brooklyn's East New York neighborhood after responding to a 911 call.
Avitto is the cousin of Chicago Bulls power forward Taj Gibson, WGN-TV reported.

It's significant that on Friday another child was stabbed to death only a few blocks away.

I think the area is a housing project. And they likely play outside on the street while inattentive mom does whatever it is people do in housing projects. Facebook, Maury, a bit of Steve Wilkos, send kids to play somewhere, plan to get F-ed up, look for a job later.
Growing up in Florida, some kids head was found on the beach. We were not shielded from it and my parents never lost sight of us.

I agree; I live a dozen miles to the west, and haven’t been there in years. After Rudy was elected, people told me it was different; they had simply moved the homeless crazies off the streets into the subways. He made it more secure, but that has been undone since he left.
At this point visiting NYC would be like volunteering for a “scared straight” program where you spend some time in jail.
