SeaTac workers “not happy” with $15 min. wage

Last January, SeaTac implemented a $15 per hour minimum wage for hospitality and transportation workers. The consequences to the drastic hike in wages are just beginning to be realized—and it’s not pretty.

A writer for NW Asian Weekly recently blogged about her experience attending an event at a SeaTac hotel. She asked employees if they were “happy with the $15 wage.” The ensuingconversations,

“It sounds good, but it’s not good,” the woman said.

“Why?” I asked.

“I lost my 401k, health insurance, paid holiday, and vacation,” she responded. “No more free food,” she added.

“The hotel used to feed her. Now, she has to bring her own food. Also, no overtime, she said. She used to work extra hours and received overtime pay.

“What else? I asked.

“I have to pay for parking,” she said.

“I then asked the part-time waitress, who was part of the catering staff.

“Yes, I’ve got $15 an hour, but all my tips are now much less,” she said. Before the new wage law was implemented, her hourly wage was $7. But her tips added to more than $15 an hour. Yes, she used to receive free food and parking. Now, she has to bring her own food and pay for parking.”

Econ 101 lady. Take one class then maybe you’ll know what happened. These people literally believe that the money should come from the “rich owners” and “rich corporate officers”. They have “plenty” and need to share. That’s the mentality.

Why I am SHOCKED! How could that possibly happen to a good liberal city that was only trying to "help the poor".

Way to go SeaTac, you are well on the way to destroying yourself and Seattle is dumb enough to follow.

Mika ran the Morning Joe show this morning (Joe was off) and had on a few male guests(sheep) and put them all on the spot “Are you FOR or against the raising the minimum wage ? quick answer.???.”

All the sheep including Micheal Steele were too intimidated by her to say anything but ‘for’.

Then after that ritual she gleefully pointed out that Seattle just raised their city minimum wage to $15 per hour.

Steele pointed out that it was to be phased in over ~ 7 years and she jumped on him screaming “AT LEAST THE’RE DOING IT. ITS FAIR FOR BUSINESS TO PHASE IT IN”

Then she added that its a crime to pay workers less than that.

None of the men sheep on the show had the guts to tell her that she just contradicted herself.

Seattle will now become the next Detroit. The Seahawks are going to see a large drop-off in their season ticket sales in the coming years.

I don’t blame the workers - I blame the radical activists who couldn’t have cared less about the consequences of their actions. Now we have more people pushed onto the dole.

Well duh!

Anyway- It's minimum wage for minimum skills, minimum education, minimum effort, minimum reliability, minimum IQ, minimum ambition, minimum dedication, minimum perseverance, minimum diligence, minimum initiative, etc...

Before the new wage law was implemented, her hourly wage was $7. But her tips added to more than $15 an hour.

Another casualty of this stupidity will be the quality of service.
When the majority of the take home pay was dependent on tips, there was an effort to provide quality service in the hopes of a bigger tip.
Now there's no driving force for good service since they're (essentially) all paid the same whether they're actually any good at their job or not.

In reading this I get the feeling it is incomplete. If you are not happy with the situation there is generally a thought of what must be done to fix the situation. That is not here................................

A lot of people would rather make $5 an hour and have everything provided for them verses making $15 an hour and having the freedom and responsibility of providing for themselves.
