It’s not just those six men who died hunting for him but an unknown number of others who were killed because of him giving military info and helping build IEDs. We had a young friend who was killed by an IED in that same province which makes me wonder.
Probably go back to Afghanistan to receive new orders.
You remember precisely correctly. Mind you, these terms are somewhat relative. I was ragging on a very liberal friend in Moscow and he sez, "You know what? This is the most liberal town in Idaho! And eight miles away is the most conservative town in Washington [he means Pullman]. AND YOU CAN'T TELL THEM APART!"
A certain sough of rhetoric may be there - the Sun Valley / Ketchum / Hailey area is, actually, more liberal than here due to resort development there. They are surrounded, however, by red-meat-eating knuckle-dragging rightwing gun nuts, aka normal people. It's something.

I believe Bergdahl went into the military specifically to enact his plan to free the victimized Afghanies.
Descriptions of his background imply that his decision to go into the military was sudden and out-of-character.
Hailey is in Blaine County. Blaine County is pro-homosexual, pro-Obama, pro-hippie-freak leftist country. Nothing that spills out of this God-forsaken place surprises me.
The people there must be insane LIB freaks...if they are going to “honor” the deserter/traitor with a homecoming. LIB asshats.
I worked at a local TV station here in Boise at that time (their signal covers the Hailey/Ketchum/Sun Valley area), and was on duty the night the Bergdahl story broke. We reported the first official Army story at 10:00, that he had walked away from his post. But by the next morning, that story had been retracted by the Army, and the BS of him having been "captured" while "on patrol" was being circulated. Even our Leftist news director had the good sense to tell us NOT to refer to Bergdahl as a "hero", as there were too many unanswered questions surrounding his disappearance.
Nonetheless, the good hearted and naive people of Central and Southern Idaho (not sure how they reacted up North in the Panhandle) just couldn't pass up an opportunity to get all weepy and touchy-feely over their "hero", on national TV. I suspect a lot of the outpouring and gushing of praise for Bergdahl from the people of not just Hailey, but all of Idaho, was and still is putting on a good show for the cameras.
As a reporter I used to work with once said, "If there was a Top 10 list of all the towns that love to be named to Top 10 lists, Boise would be in the Top 10." Idahoans ache for attention, which is one of the reasons we make such a big deal out of an otherwise second-rate football team like Boise State. Sorry if I sound jaded or overly harsh, but after living here for 10 years, and working in the news media, one thing is clear...Idahoans are attention-starved. We have dreams of greatness that always seem to elude us. The mayor of Boise, Comrade Dave Bieter, tries everything he can to make us Portland, Jr...or Calgary, Jr...or Seattle, Jr. Ever since the first network TV truck pulled into Hailey, I'm sure they rejoiced at the fact that they were finally on the map. Now it's going to bite them in the a**, because their claim to fame is a traitor that got good Americans killed because of his actions. They knew all along, they just chose to bask in the spotlight.
That sounds awful, but I do believe it's true.

I know a guy who just moved up there. He is thrilled that he was able to rent a place where he can shoot his rifle off the back porch and that the sign at the wildlife refuge is full of bullet holes. Redneck to the core I suppose but you would never know it. He has two advanced degrees with honors and you don’t want to challenge him in a game of wits.
