Joni Ernst Wins Iowa GOP Senate Nomination
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | June 3, 2014 | Tony Lee

Joni Ernst parlayed her unusual support from establishment Republicans and conservatives to win Iowa's GOP Senate nomination outright on Tuesday, surpassing the 35% threshold needed to avoid a June 14 nominating convention, where nothing would have been guaranteed.

The Associated Press called the race after Ernst had 53.7% of the vote with just under 20% of the precincts reporting.

She will face Rep. Bruce Braley (D-IA), who won the Democratic nomination uncontested, to replace retiring Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA). Ernst will try to become the first female to be elected to federal office in Iowa.

Perhaps giving 2016 GOP presidential hopefuls a roadmap, Ernst successfully navigated the GOP civil war to earn the support of Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Marco Rubio, the Senate Conservatives Fund, and the Chamber of Commerce. In the state, she had the support of the Iowa Republican Governor Terry Branstad's machinery....

She won 56%. She’s the best candidate, you should be glad she won.

BTW Iowa has no runoffs, only a few Southern states do.

But in Iowa if no one gets at least 35% then it goes to a state convention, this occurred in 3rd Congressional district with the GOP nomination.

A number of her ads were paid for by the Chamber of Commerce. Mitt Romney endorsed her and if you look at her campaign web site she does not address illegal immigration. Sam Clovis would have been the conservative choice here.

I realize Iowa a essentially a blue state, but does she have a chance vs. Braley?

That was my concern, and why I didn’t vote for her.

This is fantastic news. It supports my hypothesis that constitutional conservatives have to be better, MUCH BETTER candidates than their opposition. Our donations get them in the spotlight, then it’s up to the candidate. As this nomination victory shows, really good candidates will get it done from there.

She certainly has a chance. We have seen that Braley is a weak and foolish candidate. Governor Branstad will win with 60% and can hopefully help other Republicans.

concur

here in the cedar valley, there has been quite a bit of backlash against braley and the grassley bashing incident.

I think ernst has a good chance of winning in november.

I would LOVE to see braley get retired. he is a colossal a**-hat

So if she loses to a Democrat Man, does that mean it’s the “Democrat War On Women”?
