Mississippi Senate: Crossroads Is Out; USCOC Is In
Cook Political Report ^ | 6/4/14 | Jennifer Duffy

Posted on 06/04/2014 10:18:50 AM PDT by ghost of stonewall jackson

Now that the Republican primary in Mississippi is headed to a June 24 run-off between U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran and state Sen. Chris McDaniel, various players are deciding whether they will play in the race over the next three weeks. The most significant announcement was provided to The Cook Political Report by American Crossroads. Communications Director Paul Lindsay gave us this statement: “Other than Alaska, we have completed our work on Senate primaries this cycle and are now focused on general elections. With the Chamber, the NRSC, and a local super PAC already backing Cochran, this is not our fight.”

Crossroads’ absence in the run-off denies Cochran’s campaign a major source of outside spending, but not everyone is staying on the sidelines and Cochran will have plenty of support. Rob Collins, the Executive Director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, has said that the committee will “fully support” Cochran in the run-off. The NRSC’s first priority is always to support incumbent.

RINO’s routinely win primaries in the South because they are open to all voters.

Democrats and Independents vote in big numbers in Republican Primaries, as the Republican Primary winners usually win the General Elections.

Primaries in the South are all open because that is what the Establishment, which controls the State Central Committees, wants.

Cochran is a throwaway for them. Republicans will win the senate there. If Cochran couldn’t get 50% with their money as well as several thousand Democrat votes, there is no reason to back him now and waste a couple of million.

Do NOT MISS THIS from penelopsire!

Have you all seen this:

@SenThadCochran: Welcome home, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. A grateful America thanks you for your service.

How out of touch can that old coot be?

If I were in ms. and on McDaniel’s team, this stupid tweet by Cochran would be front & center of any run off strategy. Just sayin.

Thank you so much, from our Patriot, Mississippi hearts, dearest penelopesire!

Please pass that onto Chris McDaniel's campaign. (or I will).

BTW, Channel 12 News at Noon, shows McDaniel with 50 %, at 100% counted, but with absentee's still left to count.

With the third man out of the race and McDaniel likely to pick up most of his 5000 votes plus 2000 vote margin McDaniel won by that is 7500 votes in the McDaniel column.

These groups can count too, and pouring more money into a loser isn’t gonna happen.

Thad should bow out, its looking like a lost cause.

And what will he say if McDaniel wants to debate him?

I think Thad knows he isn’t sharp enough to debate anymore.

I suspect Cochran will withdraw from the race

If he's not senile, he should be convinced that dropping out before a runoff will be perceived in history books as an indication that he's a patriot who served his state and his nation honorably and knew when it was time to move on.

If not, McDaniels should run such a vigorous campaign that Cocharan cannot handle it. Eventually Cocharan will say something really stupid and have to withdraw. That technique worked in the NBA.

Did Cochran made any public appearances during the primary? A lot of pronouncements have come from his campaign, but I haven't seen any footage of him on the news recently (not that I watch a lot of it).

I'm beginning to think Weekend at Bernie's.

Anybody else noticing a trend with Cochran. He is avoiding debate.
He won’t meet face to face with reporters or other media. He did not even
speak to his supporters last night.
His communication is all through press releases.
Instead of meeting with the media to say that he is looking forward
to fighting for Mississippi, he releases a press statement.

I think there is something wrong with Cochran.

They better watch out for the RINO-Dem machine getting a lot of Democrats in the runoff election.

Whoa. This is why they won’t let him debate or speak in public without a planned script and/or handlers.

One wonders if his family will throw him in a home 1000m away from them so they can ‘get on with their lives’. It would be the least of what he deserves given that’s what he did to his wife.
