The truth is it served as a week’s distraction from his other scandals and the administration was just as dishonest in answering the questions as they’ve been through the others.
He knew there’d be blowback. He figured that there would at least be some Ra Ra spirit as Obama claims “Mission Accomplished” and the crowds shout “Obama Got Bergdahl (back)!”
The annual memorial event was just around the corner and quickly morphed into a “celebration”. The some local military vets were outraged to see it turned into a “jingoistic” event.

Perhaps the single biggest reason the White House spin on the Bergdahl trade didn’t hold up was because almost immediately people who knew him in Afghanistan started talking about what they knew about his disappearance. While these details had been kept under wraps via a non-disclosure agreement, A what? WTF?
