Rand Paul: Ted Cruz Would Be ‘Friendly’ White House Rival
Associated Press ^ | 06/06/2014

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) – U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky says he and Texas counterpart Ted Cruz will be “friendly competitors” should both run for president in 2016. Each is addressing the Texas Republican Convention in Fort Worth — and both are possible White House contenders.

~snip~

Cruz and Paul are both tea party favorites and could compete for the support of the same conservative activists. But Paul said only that “we’ll both be competing for Republicans.”

Would there be enough Conservatves and Libertarians out there to put these two over the top if they run Pres/VP?

Not necessarily the same Republicans though.

Yeah. It's like when one senator refers to another senator as his 'good friend' when you know the two can't stand each other.

Cruz is, but Rand Paul, not so much anymore.

That's what happens when you cozy up to the GOP-E by endorsing the GOP-E candidate over the Tea-Party candidate, and by putting forth your own Amnesty plan, and then to cap it all off, pursue a policy of putting Social Issues on the "back-burner".

Good question. A Cruz/Paul ticket is a sure fire winner.

A Paul/Cruz ticket? Not so much.

I wouldn’t vote for Rand Paul under any circumstances but I would craw on broken glass to vote for Ted Cruz. Unless Ted does some really stupid stuff before 2016 he is the best bet for the White House.

I'd vote for that ticket either way they stacked it.

Beats the living hell out of Christy/Bush.

Don’t forget that Rand Paul was there for Ted Cruz’s 21 hours, as were Marc Rubio, Mike Lee and Jeff Sessions. That means a lot.

Same here GeronL.

Having made the difficult choice to no longer vote for the GOP-E "Lesser of two evils" I have been liberated to vote only for men and/or women who are actually committed and principled conservatives.

Rand Paul does not fall into that category.

And then promptly afterward, Rand Paul stabbed Cruz in the back by saying it never was going to work and he felt it was the wrong approach.

But hey, we'll keep quiet about that action of Rand Paul, right?

Rand Paul was there, as Devil’s advocate not really to support what Cruz was doing.

“And do goes the drumbeat to promote the lie that Rand Paul is a conservative.”

I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but I’d love for Paul to be in charge of a Senate budget committee for about 6 years.

Just strip out the non-Constitutional bloat.

Just keep him away from social issues.

I’d prefer him where he is at best since he proved we can’t trust him. I would think there is someone among America’s 300,000,000 people that can be found who does not carry his baggage and is a budget/reform hawk.

I like those odds a lot more than this fraud anywhere near power.

I was transfixed to the TV the whole time Ted Cruz was doing his 21 hours. Ted Cruz beyond a doubt has a quality intellect and a passionate love for the US. What I noticed is that Rand Paul asked him some questions that challenged parts of Cruz's vision. It seemed to have perked Cruz up intellectually and given him an opportunity to articulate his views.

I was also impressed by Marc Rubio. After he was played so badly by Schummer and McCain, he did not continue down that path. By standing by Cruz for the 21 hours, he showed that he values his conservative credentials and has been a pretty solid consrvative since.

None of these guys (and hopefully one gal) are perfect. But if they put their heads together, really look at what it will take to save the US, they just might together come up with an agenda that works. I'm confident that if they do that things like stopping the invasion of the US and getting the out of control banks back in line and transferring a lot of responsibilities back to the states will be part of their agenda.

Paul has turned into a nut case, like his father.
Although he ran as a Tea Party Conservative, he is far from it.

A Cruz/Paul ticket would be great. That said, I hope one Conservative candidate will run, so we can unite.

You wouldn’t vote for Rand Paul under any circumstances? Really? Cruz is my choice but if it is between Paul and Bush or Christie, I’d crawl on broken glass to vote for Paul. Then again, I’ll be lucky to have any choice by the time it gets to Virginia.

I understand, but I love libertarians in charge of purse strings.

More conservative than conservatives — in that ONE area.
