Grahamís closing argument: Iím the conservative South Carolina wants

Sen. Lindsey Graham is making his final television ad pitch with two spots that remind voters that he’s a diehard conservative.

Graham is trying to get a majority in Tuesday’s Republican Senate primary, and the latest Clemson University Palmetto Poll showed him with 49 percent. If he fails to get more than 50 percent, he’d compete against the runnerup in a runoff two weeks later.

Tea party activists have criticized Graham for not adhering strictly to conservative principles; the new ads try to refute that argument.

His campaign said the ads are “part of a significant six-figure statewide ad campaign running on television, radio, and digital platforms.”

In the spots, he “humbly” asks for South Carolina Republicans’ votes.

They then list what he’s done, including support for building the Keystone XL Pipeline “as part of an â“all-of-the-above” effort to reduce our dependency on Middle Eastern oil, “Opposition to Obamacare from Day One and fight to repeal, replace, and opt-out of it” strong efforts to “find answers on what happened in Benghazi,” and “standng up for our military and providing our troops and veterans the equipment and services they need.”

At least get some yucks & look up Glenn Beck’s opening segment yesterday, Thursday. Does a fantastic Lindsey.

I met the little creep only once in 2002 as he was being anointed to step into the late Sen. Thurmond’s giant shoes. Lindsey shook my hand (yuk!) looked up at me with his baby blues (I’m all of 5’10”) and I swear he didn’t speak, he cooed.....

Will vote against Flimsey again, this year. Geez.....

I do hope that Graham is forced into a runoff. Any of the other Republicans running against him in the primary would be an improvement.

Why do these RINOs always campaign as "conservatives", then go to DC and do everything they can behind closed doors to destroy conservatives and conservative principles?

Please, please, South Carolinian voters, send Senator Graham back to Washington into retirment. Did you think he ever come back to South Caroline, if he didn't have to? Send Senator Graham to K Street, his future home.

I think he’ll probably avoid one, and if he doesn’t his opponent will almost certainly be Lee Bright (2nd in every poll) who I think is too flawed to beat him, Graham I think could successfully make the runoff about Bright rather than his own record.

I don’t like the “anybody but Graham” campaign strategy, if the 2nd place finisher is a dud then the runoff would be irrelevant.

Go Richard Cash!!

I prefer Cash and Mace, in that order (and not just for a weekend in Dallas : ), but whichever had the better chance of finishing ahead of Bright would get my vote. Just about every poll has Bright second and Cash third, and every conservative who wants to defeat Graham should vote for Cash, since Cash can defeat Graham in the runoff while Bright likely would fall short. Richard Cash is a 100% conservative who can win.

I leaned towards Bright after Mace’s campaign seemed to bungle several things, dismissing Cash because his campaign didn’t seem to be gaining any traction. What are your reasons for thinking he is the best to take on Linseed?

If that were the case, shouldn't Cash have more than 5% of the vote?

Well, I don’t know about Auh but MY main reason is, he’s NOT Lee Bright.

Bright has had personal finical troubles, gives off neo-confederatey vibes, and doesn’t seem all that likable or good on the campaign trail.

Mace appears to be a flop (so everyone says), that leaves Cash. He lost a close runoff to Jeff Duncan in 2010, he seems to have made a good impression.

If it was clear Mace was in third, I’d back her.

It’s a pity, I think a top tier candidate like Joe Wilson would have smoked Graham.

I think that Cash is our best bet to beat Graham in the runoff (assuming that Graham can be held under 50% in the first round) because he has a good profile for a Senate candidate in SC, has experience running in tough races, and does not have the baggage that Bright has. Bright already has said and done things that Graham will use against him in attack ads (financial and tax problems with his business, saying “if at first you don’t secede, try, try again”), and I think he’s likelier to say something stupid during the runoff campaign than would the more polished Cash. And since Cash is no less conservative than Bright, I am not tempted at all to support Bright over Cash.

As for how Cash could be at around 5% in the most recent polls (with Bright at like 13%) if Cash is a better candidate than Bright, well, voters aren’t always well informed and don’t always make the best decisions. Cash still has time to catch up to Bright and hopefully outpoll him in the primary, but he needs to get moving.

And I agree with the statements that if one of the GOP congressmen run against Graham that Graham would be toast. But it’s too late for anyone else to run.

I have to wonder why none of them stepped up the challenge Graham. It can’t have been unknown how weak and unpopular he was.
