McConnell to headline Thad Cochran fundraiser

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is putting the weight of his political organization behind embattled Sen. Thad Cochran.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee sent out an email missive Friday afternoon urging supporters to attend a June 10 fundraiser in support of the Mississippi Republican’s run-off headlined by McConnell.

Additionally, in an NRSC political briefing Friday, senior staff told a packed room of more than 50 in-house and contract lobbyists that McConnell is “all-in” on the race, though specifics were not given, according to an attendee. Mississippi Sen. Roger Wicker has also been making calls for Cochran.

The effort comes as some big money Republican organizations like American Crossroads have pulled out of the race and conservative state Sen. Chris McDaniel has seen a rallying among tea party groups.

“Our friend Thad is in a battle in the coming weeks that will have a very real impact on our fight for the Majority. You have helped all of us in the past, and we need your help for him now,” the email signed by McConnell said. “It is critical that he has financial resources now, and we are going to make sure he has them.”

The fundraiser at the NRSC headquarters, where Wicker and other GOP senators are expected to attend, is asking “hosts” to contributed $5,000 for political action committees or $2,600 in personal contributions, according to a copy of the invite. Guests are asked to contribute $2,000 for PACs or $1,000 for personal contributions.

“We have been in this situation before and all of us know well from experience, this is no time to sit on the sidelines,” the email signed by McConnell said, noting that that he and his team will be “asking for daily updates for those of you who have stepped up to help.”

“[McConnell” was and remains a dismal failure as a leader.”

You’re right, he’s a colossal failure, unless one considers a continual retreat to the rear to be success.

If McDaniel plays this right the Dems crossovers could result in a huge backlash against Thad.

Democrats would actually have a better chance beating Cochran because Childers(D) could hit him on amnesty and his donors.

When McDaniel wins the immigration issue is off the table for blue dog Democrats.

Hypocrites. Weren’t they bemoaning all the “outside” money and support going into the McDaniel campaign? Are they holding this fundraiser at Thad’s house?

Boss Hogg, Haley Barbour is out whining about outside groups participating
in the Mississippi election.

Last time I checked, McConnell and his band of thieves don’t live in
MS either.

No one can vote in the Run-off if they did NOT vote in the Primary can they? Somebody who knows, help us out here.

Per my post below to the MS SoS requirements for voting in the run-off (full are in the thread/initial post), it looks like if you were REGISTERED to vote in the primary, you could still vote in the run-off (even if you didn’t vote in the primary), but it doesn’t allow crossover votes:

“Only those who voted in yesterday’s Republican primary can vote in the run-off.”

I’m watching this race from afar and hoping McDaniel will win. Just trying to understand the rules.

I read what you said on the election thread the other night. But, then saw the below (posted above from the SoS), am I mis-reading it? Based on the 2nd bullet, it seems to me that if a voter was registered for the primary, even though they didn’t vote in the primary, they could still vote in the run-off. The guidelines also say that the run-off does not allow cross-over votes, so, those that are registered as Dims couldn’t vote in the Pubbie run-off, which is a good thing.

“Citizens must have been registered for the June 3, 2014 Primary Election to be eligible to vote in the June 24, 2014 Primary Runoff Election.
• If an eligible voter did not participate in the June 3rd Primary Election, the voter may vote in either the Democratic or Republican Primary Runoff.”

Best,
SC
