Anyone that wants to know what is wrong with today's Republican Party need only look to the state of Mississippi.
A 76-year-old Republican senator, Thad Cochran, who has been serving in Congress for 42 years, is running yet again for another six-year term. This, while his dementia-ridden wife has been sitting in a nursing home for the last 14 years.
In the primary Tuesday, Cochran lost by half a point to Tea Party Republican challenger Chris McDaniel. But because McDaniel fell short of the 50 percent mark, there will be a runoff.
Cochran should step aside now and acknowledge what is clear as a bell. Grassroots Mississippi Republicans, like Americans nationwide, want change.

But in a statement about what the Republican Party establishment is about today, they are encouraging him to continue. They would rather have an out-of-touch old man in the U.S. Senate, without a single idea for dealing with our nation’s many problems, than the thought of a Tea Party candidate who wants to do something.
Three in four Americans are dissatisfied with the direction of the country. Barack Obama was elected in 2008 in response to Americans wanting something new.
Now many Americans finally realize that what Obama has to offer they don’t want. So opportunity knocks for a newly energized and principled Republican opposition.
But instead of delivering something new, the Republican establishment wants to deliver what is old. Cochran’s agenda is to continue to serve up government pork to Mississippi and protect the interests of his friends in Washington.
America today barely resembles the nation when Thad Cochran first assumed office in January 1973.
The federal budget then was $250 billion compared to more than $4 trillion today.

Missed opportunity? The GOPe wing of the UNIPARTY is scared to death of the Tea Party. There’s too much power, control and perks at stake to allow representation based on the Founder’s Constitution to flourish.

Thad Cochran has been in Congress for 41 years. Can anyone out there tell me one single accomplishmen? Just one. And not that he has spent 41 years “Bringing home the bacon”.
All I am asking is someone to name one single piece of legislation he has authored. Just one.
Hell, maybe, JUST ONE? could be a campaign slogan for McDaniel
Inasmuch as the GOPe is encouraging Dem crossover in the runoff, those for real reform should be urging the Indies to show up to defeat both the GOPe and their Dem allies.
McDaniels should do some talking about consitutional conservative principles that would be good for all Mississippi residents. How about more US jobs to US citizens and EVerify? How about an end to the feds telling Mississippi schools what they have to teach?
Bringing people in with a positive, energetic message against RINO slimeball attacks is what we need now. Everybody's aware of their tactics.
What government problems has Thad Cochran fixed in 40 years in office? Bueller..... Bueller.... What are the chances that Thad Cochran will contribute to fixing the Federal Government? And by fixing the Federal Government, I mean it in the veternarian sense.

A Mississippi man called Levins radio show a few days ago. He said what is going on here is that the GOP wants Cochran to get reelected, so that they can then retire him and appoint his successor, who will then in turn be the incumbent at the next election.
Oh his daughter brags that Senator Cochran coauthored McCain-Feingold and that the name Cochran should be included in the name of a crappy law that curtails freedom of speech.
A debate between the candidates would be a very good thing. Or maybe the Cochran camp needs to send a surrogate to debate McDaniel if their candidate is incapable of representing THEIR side accurately. This particular election represents the illusions Americans have about government very well. We think we are voting for a candidate. But we are really voting for a cartel of sorts.
The argument I’ve seen from Cochran supporters seems to be something like this: “he’s got seniority, he can bring home the pork, if we don’t elect him we’ll go to the last of the line”. When I point out that in spite of all the pork he’s brought home over the past 40 years we’re STILL number FIFTY out of fifty states they just kind of stammer.
Elect Thad, because we’re number fifty and want to stay there!
