GOP candidates for U.S. Senate debate Saturday night
thestate.com ^ | 6/6/14

Posted on 06/07/2014 6:01:41 AM PDT by cotton1706

The Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate seat now held by two-term incumbent Lindsey Graham will debate on S.C. ETV from 7 to 8 p.m. The debate is the final of five primary debates sponsored by ETV and a group of S.C. newspapers – The State, The Greenville News, The Beaufort Gazette, The Island Packet of Hilton Head, The Sun News of Myrtle Beach, The Herald of Rock Hill and The Item of Sumter.

Who? Appearing will be Graham, Columbia minister Det Bowers, state Sen. Lee Bright of Spartanburg, Easley businessman Richard Cash, Orangeburg attorney Bill Connor, Columbia attorney Benjamin Dunn and Charleston businesswoman Nancy Mace.

What’s next? The Democratic and Republican primaries will be held Tuesday. Runoffs, if necessary, will be held June 24. Any registered voter may vote in either primary; South Carolina does not require voters to register by party. But you only can vote in runoffs of the party that you cast a ballot in the primary of. If you vote in the Democratic primary, for instance, you can not vote in GOP runoff.

Saturday’s debate will be streamed live here.

Too many challengers in this debate.

It strikes me that Lindsay is going to benefit from too many people being on stage. How does ONE of them stand out to beat this disaster of a senator?

Seems like Lindsay Graham is also having to compete against Lindsay Graham, and his record.

At this (primary) stage, the goal is NOT to have one of the challengers “beat” Little Lindsey Graham. The goal is to keep Little Lindsey UNDER the 50% level needed to avoid a runoff. Any vote, for any of the challengers, contributes toward the success of that goal.

If that INITIAL goal is met, the next goal is for the 2nd place finisher in the primary to advance to the runoff and to beat Graham there.

By having a brilliant communications guy who has set the stage for 2 or 3 “moments” that will go viral.

While the goal may be to force a runoff - 6 challengers is 4 too many. The challengers should strongly consider who amongst them really has the best chance against Lindsay and narrow themselves down quickly so the election has no more than 3 options. The chance of the conservative vote being split 6 ways with some unelectable ultraconservative garnering the highest vote amongst them is actually pretty high.

The momentum is building. Here was some of the warm up act ... 'the Gomer Pyle of the Senate' ... Shazam!

Assuming, of course, that 2 or 3 of the challengers are not ringers brought in by the GOPe and Lady Lindsey in order to dilute the anti-Graham vote.

I am still shocked that Lady Lindsey agreed to this debate. Basically, all six challengers (too many for a "debate") were able to tee off on his horrible record for the entire hour when LG wasn't speaking. It made for good entertainment.

Hopefully, many voters in South Carolina were watching and a run-off election ensues ... with or without Grahamnesty!

I think he felt like just one debate, this close to election day, could not sink him. But he was very unhappy. His mouth was turned down on one corner, it was NOT his Sunday Shows happy face.

The studio is right next to Williams Brice Stadium, home to the Gamecocks. As such, the SCETV parking lot is PRIME tail gating territory. There was a big Lee Bright fan tailgate party with big screen tv and balloons and food and drink right where all the other candidates parked. It was great.

Here's the way the primary is run here in South Carolina:Source.

I watched the debate with the Aiken County Tea Party. Some of them said the word on the street is that linda's internal polling shows her getting 38% on Tues.

Congratulations to the candidates for doing a fine job of not bickering among themselves but aiming everything at linda. Methinks she's in trouble.

For me, it will be a tossup among Bright, Cash and Connor next Tues.

The though of Miss Lindsey representing us for another 6 years makes me sick.
