Police Video Shows Officers Saving Girl From Dog Attack
The Daily Caller ^ | 6/6/14

Posted on 06/07/2014 2:16:14 PM PDT by Kartographer

A 911 call made during the attack reveals more gruesome details.

“They’re slinging her all over the street,” the female caller says.

She said that a neighbor was using a pole to get one of the dogs to release Drame, but the animal had her by the face.

“There’s blood all over,” said the caller, who added that a third dog was chasing neighbors down the street.

Charges may be filed against the dogs’ owners, depending upon Drame’s recovery.

Is that the standard by which we measure crime?

I think its a matter of what they will charge them with, murder or something less.

The child is in a medically induced coma.

The dog had her by the face so the dog pulled her skin off, they broke her jaw, her tongue is gone,” Leslie McElrath Jr., the girl’s grandfather, told WLWT

No way I am watching that. Glad the police shot and killed the dogs. Some dogs just need killing.

Ok, maybe I’m confused...err, not really...

The cops do their job by killing vicious animals attacking a little girl...

So it’s the other end of the moral equivalent for cops shooting dogs for apparently no good reason...

Well, that makes sense.

But the article doesn't say anything like -- "We haven't decided what to charge them with; we need to see if the victim survives or not".

The article says "Charges may be filed" but goes on to say "it depends".

That's saying a different thing.

My grandson is a dog lover and owns three dogs himself. When he was on a call he had to shoot a dog that was attacking him. He hated to do it but it had to be done. It is not always done out of cruelty.

You can’t see that much action accept the officers standing around looking down at the child. This is from a distance of maybe 15 or 20 feet away where the sqaud car was parked. At the very least, the owner should be fined and needs to lose the right to be a dog owner for a set amount of years. The life this girl would’ve had is over. If she survives, it will be a long, painstaking process, but it is possible.

The child had her tongue bitten away. If she is not brain damaged from concussions, there will no doubt be severe emotional trauma for her and her family. If I were the parent, I would make plans to move as soon as the child stablized. If I stayed in that same neighborhood after what some careless person allowed their wild beasts to do to my child, I may be able to compartmentalize my rage, but it would always be in the front of my mind when I saw that neighbor or their car or their dogs. Not a healthy attitude to harbor when all you really need is peace and quiet.

But you have to watch the video in order to find out that this attack was indeed by the Gentile breed of loving dog called a Pit-Bul. As if it wasn’t obvious already. But I didn’t find that fact in the written account at all. This video is mostly from the news team, and does not show the injured child.

There have been a lot of stories about cops shooting dogs when they didn’t have to, whether that was spite, ‘roid rage, or just because they could get away with it. Neither Kartographer nor I have been the slightest bit (no pun intended!) shy about criticizing them when they do.

It’s only fair that we recognize when shooting a dog in needful and not psychotic.

Or would you prefer we pick a side in the false devil cop/angel cop dichotomy and stick to it no matter what?

Every time someone’s shot the government wants our guns. But time after time pit bulls have mauled, killed, and attacked people and nothing is done. It should not be legal for people to own or breed these dogs. They’re killers.

How many people/children have to be killed, maimed before the politicians screaming GUN CONTROL even MENTION that these dogs are bread to kill - one never knows when and what the trigger will be -

But there’s no political power to be made, no country to subdue by doing some serious pit bull control.

ALL dogs should be under control at ALL times.

I hope somebody shoots the owner, too.
They earned it.

There is no excuse for this and it is their fault that poor child is suffering.

When I take the Dobes in public, they are leashed.

Sometimes, depending on circumstances, they are also wearing head halters which act as muzzles, if need be.

No innocent person will ever be harmed by dogs.

Someone would literally have to break into my home to get bitten by them...which removes them from the “innocent person” list, by default.

Responsible dog ownership is really not that difficult to achieve.

Hmmm, so let’s say they did get loose, or a kid wandered into your yard... and one of your dogs DID maul a child. Shouldn’t you go to jail if that happened? You have already declared that they are a threat because you muzzle them. If I were on a jury I take that as tacit admission that they are indeed dangerous. What I don’t get about dog owners is that they just can’t admit that they have a dangerous animal. Suppose I was your neighbor and I had a pet cougar... Never bitten anyone... Tame as can be... Would you be OK with that?

Don’t play word games with me.

I never declared them a “threat” nor did I say I “muzzle them” and you know that.

In intense situations I err on the side of caution because I do not want them to bite *other dogs*.

They would not bite kids, smart ass.

They will *not* get loose unless they master locks and keys nor can any kids get to them unless they are tiny little felons who also have mastered picking locks.

All of that seemingly excessive security, by the way, is for the *dogs’* safety.

People steal dogs.

Not mine.

Every dog owner on earth has a potentially dangerous animal, just like every parent has a potential future serial killer sitting at the breakfast table.

[I can stoop to logical fallacies too, even though my initial reply to you was logical, polite and rational]

I’m pondering whether you used argumentum ad populum or argumentum ad baculum with your inane pet cougar remark.

FYI, in Miami, you can own a pet tiger but not a pit bull.

That must make you feel very conflicted.

Please go play Twister with someone more gullible.

Hypothetically yours,

Salamander

People in my family think I am foolish because I’m afraid of dogs. I’ve been afraid of them my whole life, but the longer I live the more convinced I become that I’m right.

A big dog can kill you pretty easily, why wouldn’t I be afraid of them?

This was a child (no, I’m not watching the video either) but remember those 2 big dogs who killed that woman in California? And she was very young and fit, iirc. They killed her.

I err on the side of kids. Kids are mauled everyday in this country. My kids have been bit. A neighbor down the street notoriously owns 2 pit bulls(more than one always leads to trouble because they are pack hunters). If they ever got loose they would cause harm.. Period. People such as yourself give morons like him cover, thanks. Your dogs are dogs, hate to break it to you. People personify their animals. It’s irrational and normally harmless, but when you own an animal that can rip the face off of a child don’t expect me to applaud. You own “dobes” cause you think they’re badass, I couldn’t care less.

I think I can trust that a Doberman’s temperament is the result of how somebody raises him. My neighbor once had a Doberman that was really nice. She would actually play-bite my hand if I stuck it over the fence, but not bite for real.

Pits, on the other hand, were bred to be fighting dogs, if I remember correctly, so it would pay to take extra precautions when owning one, so that things like this disaster do not happen.

I own Dobes because one who was a miraculous stray saved me from any more of the ongoing ‘attentions’ of a pedophile uncle when nobody else in my family gave a shit, moron.

I owe them my life and I’ve spent 40 years repaying that debt by rescuing them.

Maybe you should actually read what people write instead of just repeating, ad nauseum, your own idiotic opinions.

People such as yourself give stiff-necked [clueless] know-it-alls a bad reputation.

How did my “shoot the owner, too” offer him *any* “cover”?

I have no idea how you managed to extrapolate that from anything I wrote *unless* you have severe reading comprehension problems.

You just want to pontificate your own self-important demands rather than openly discuss or actually listen to anything others say.

You remind me of liberals.

Dobes are famously “mouthy” dogs.

They habitually “hold” their owners’ hands.

Mine do it all the time.

All of them over the decades have, to one degree or another.

Kinda weird but it’s what they do.

What we term “pits” were bred to seize and hold livestock to protect the farmer or drover.

Then “bull baiting” became a “sport”.

Eventually, bull-baiting was outlawed and then, as now, the scum of society just had to keep inflicting misery upon animals for “fun” so dog fighting was invented.

There is something very evil about people who consider watching pain, misery and death as a form of entertainment.

The world would be a better place of they were euthanized, instead.

I make no breed distinctions in dogs.

They’re all dogs and all dogs can bite and kill.

Only a fool thinks that “Fifi” is harmless.

I have stated this more times than I can count, here, yet people think I ‘defend’ dog attacks?

I have tried to educate people so that dog attacks never happen.

Apparently no one truly listens beyond what they want to think I’m saying.
