Skip to comments.Poll: Cantor's Lead Cut to 52-39 over Dave Brat in Virginia Primary (Tuesday!)

On Friday, the Daily Caller released a poll that showed House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's (R-VA) lead over Tea Party-backed challenger Dave Brat in the Republican primary in Virginia's 7th Congressional District has dropped to 13 points just days before the June 10 election. The poll, conducted by Vox Populi of 583 likely Republican primary voters in the district on June 2, showed that 52 percent support Cantor while 39 percent support Brat.
The results suggest a sharp drop in support for Cantor. A poll conducted by McLaughlin and Associates between May 27 and 28 that showed Cantor leading by a 62 percent to 28 percent margin.
The poll also showed a sharp decline for Cantor when compared to his huge margin of 79 percent to 21 percent by which he beat challenger Floyd Bayne in the 2012 Republican primary. In the 2012 general election, Cantor defeated his Democratic opponent by a 59 percent to 41 percent margin.
Despite being outspent by $1.9 million to $123,000 up to May 21, according to reports filed by each campaign with the Federal Election Commission, Brat's focus on Cantor's immigration record has sparked national attention on the campaign.
Even if Brat cleared 40 percent, the outcome would be embarrassing for Cantor, who, like in other cycles, has not taken the race lightly.
With the active support of conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham, Brat has been able to focus the national spotlight on Cantor's immigration record, prompting Cantor to channel his inner anti-amnesty warrior over the last three weeks of the campaign.

I like Cantor.
Do you live in his district?
I’m quite sure Eric has trunkloads of ballots ready to roll where necessary.
I cannot tolerate Cantor. He is a horrible whiney assed spokesperson and a liberal at that.
ugh, he is all that sucks about the GOP.
Never mind. I see you live in Maryland. Well I’m glad you can’t help reelect him. He’s a waste.
There are quite few RNC plants that post here .
We just had one of these snakes appear here.
Yeah, being in Maryland I don’t really get a chance for my vote to mean anything anyway. I’m a Dan Bongino fan though.
“Yeah, being in Maryland I dont really get a chance for my vote to mean anything anyway. Im a Dan Bongino fan though.”
Tell me about it. I live in MA! Isn’t Bongino running for congress this year?
“There are quite few RNC plants that post here .”
Yeah, I know. I’ve argued with a number of them.
6th Congressional district- western Maryland. It’s where the votes are.
I’m in Montgomery County though, doesn’t get bluer than this...well maybe in MA.
I just happily donated $25 to Dave. Cantor is a pathetic, lying RINO of the worst kind.
Yep. He's already saying we need amnesty for law breakers......"for the sake of the children."
(Would be nice if this guy lost the election. It would be a day to celebrate.)
That’s still a sizable lead.
name one of these pukes and I’ll blast these bastards. Zotting is for lib fags.
Did you know that your congressman, Eric Cantor, supports amnesty rather than the Rule of Law? Dont be fooled by his rhetoric or election time flip-flops. Any legislation that allows the lawbreakers, including children, to stay and work here is amnesty.
Cantor favors massive increases in permanent immigration and guest worker programs that will cost the jobs of Americans and depress their wages even further. He even wants to enable illegal aliens to join the US military and compete with US citizens and legal immigrants during a period of downsizing in the military. With over 20 million Americans underemployed or unemployed, this is a travesty no matter how he spins it. We dont have a shortage of labor; we have a shortage of jobs.
Cantor does the bidding of his corporate paymasters rather than doing what is right for his constituents and our country. Cantor is no conservative. Shock the Republican Leadership on June 10th and let Cantor know there are consequences for his impending betrayal. Protect American jobs for American workers
Never, ever put faith in VA voters, and one won’t be disappointed.
Precisely why he shall be endorsed by the VA "Republican" electorate!
working late for the RNC tonight.
I guess your worried about you fellow DC cronies like the Chamber of Amnesty's favorite bagman Eric C!
“prompting Cantor to channel his inner anti-amnesty warrior”
I assume this was meant sarcastically. Cantor the Serpent is as open borders as they come; only the threat of elections holds him back from taking a Schumer approach.
If only Virginia had runoff thresholds. GO BRAT! This is winnable!
Its much worse than Boehner got against Winteregg
I like Obama. Seems a right nice feller.
Why don’t you ask Cantor about Obama’s flood of unaccompanied illegal children that he has been sending to Arizona, Oklahoma and other states around the country. Today there is an article on Drudge about the disease that these immigrants are bringing into the country.
I understand full well my conservative brethren’s disappointment with Cantor. He’s disappointed me in many respects as well. Here’s the reason though that I said I like Cantor.
I believe him to be an honorable man.
I’m not even in Cantor’s district let alone state. If I were, I’m not at all certain that I’d vote for him. What I do know is that politics need honorable people. The whole moral compass thing. In the same way I like Joe Lieberman, I disagree with him on most things but I admire the hell out of him as a human being. I’ve also been burned too many times supporting candidates who are simpatico with me on issues only to find out later that they lack a substantial moral core.
I take nothing away from Cantor’s primary challenger. I don’t know anything about him, I’m not in that district. He very well may be awesome. What I do worry about is vilifying decent people because they stray from the agenda.
