The FBI was investigating Josh Powell for child pornography at least 17 months before he killed himself and his children, according to a published report based on FBI documents.
The Salt Lake Tribune reported that the bureau was investigating Powell for possession of child pornography as well as for the death of his wife, Susan, who disappeared in 2009 and has never been found.
Anne Bremner, an attorney for Susan Powell's parents, said the family was never told the FBI was investigating Josh Powell for child pornography.

I never understood how he could have custody of his kids while his wife was missing, and the bs story he gave to the police?

The Powell case was truly an awful one and I’m glad that people haven’t forgotten it and haven’t forgotten Susan and her boys. I think that the odds are that Susan is dead, but if course people have been thought dead before, and turned up.
I think the reason that he got the boys was that the criminal behavior people knew about was on the part of his dad, Stephen Powell, not him. They didnt want to hold it against him. There were also some issues with the Cox grandparents, though they seemed to me far superior to the Powells. Josh’s sister Alina was an especially big fool.
Now comes this revelation.
I think that Stephen Powell holds the key to solving Susan’s disappearance. Unfortunately I think he will probably take it to his grave.
