ANCHORAGE A big part of being an Alaskan is harboring a suspicion of all things Lower 48. Its an inclination that runs so deep that locals have a proper noun to describe everywhere else Outside.
So, naturally, there is quite a bit of alarm here over the states newest political distinction. Alaska has unwillingly become a giant receptacle for money from super PACs and other out-of-state groups fighting over control of the United States Senate.
In no other state have so many ads about a Senate race run so far; in no place else has more money been spent to book commercial time through Election Day. More than $20 million worth of ads have been reserved so far the bulk of the money coming from Washington-based outfits like Karl Roves American Crossroads, which wants to elect a Republican, and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, which is defending Senator Mark Begich, one of the most targeted first-term Democrats. It is all the more staggering considering it will be spent to reach only about 490,000 registered voters.
The races biggest wild card is Joe Miller, the Tea Party favorite who rose to national prominence in 2010 when he beat Senator Lisa Murkowski in the Republican primary, only to lose to her in the general election as she ran a write-in candidacy. To try to prove the depth of his Alaskan roots, he declared at a recent debate, I hate Washington, D.C., and vowed not to buy some little house and get comfy if elected.
Many Republicans said they were concerned that Mr. Miller could run as a third-party candidate in November if he lost the Republican primary, which would split the conservative vote and almost certainly lead to the re-election of Mr. Begich.

Notice how they personalize the conservatives, but not the 'rats.
Karl Rove is not conservative.
Yeah, more of NYT’s bias to the Democrats. That first-term one they are trying to defend needs to be ousted and it looks like the Democrats are throwing money at it.
Well, compared to the Dem, Rove is the soul of conservativism. Go with what you can get and build on it to do better then next time.
Don’t elect the Dem because your’re PO’ed at Rove.
“In no other state have so many ads about a Senate race run so far”
Not so sure about that, Al Franken has been flooding prime time with ads in Minnesota for three weeks straight. There must be some concern in the failed comedian’s camp.
The rats knew their candidate could never win so they voted murky. Truth.
I get 3 or 4 polls a week about this crap. I just tell them about Mark’s Photo Radar fiasco in late 90’s and they howl. In the end, the only one I trust is Palin and only one I always vote for is Donny Young;he’ll never do any crazy crap.
And that is exactly how we got that liberal bitch re-elected.
Begitch be going down.
And it will probably keep happening. I do’t understand how the repugnicants in this state keep her in the party.
Senate incumbents have something like a 95% chance of reelection.
Begich is really going to have to screw up his campaign for him to lose.
