Harper stands firm against ‘imperialist’ Putin

Prime Minister Stephen Harper says Russian President Vladimir Putin is an “extreme nationalist” and an “imperialist” who is threatening global peace and security.

And Harper says he doesn’t mind standing alone in the stridency of his denunciations of the Russian president.

Still, in an interview with Global News’ The West Block, Harper backed off comparing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine’s Crimea region to Nazi Germany’s occupation of Sudetenland, a prelude to the Second World War.

“He’s obviously a nationalist, an extreme nationalist, and he’s obviously an imperialist,” Harper said in the interview, broadcast Sunday.

“This is an individual who clearly believes that, if he’s able, he has the right and the ability to invade another country, to alter borders through military force.“We’re not at Hitleresque proportions,” he added. “But this is really disconcerting. This is a major power threatening global peace and security in this way and I don’t think it’s to be taken lightly.”

In France to mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day last week, Harper shunned Putin while a number of other G7 leaders, including U.S. President Barack Obama, met with the Russian president.

Harper noted that Putin was not invited to the G7 leaders’ summit just prior to the D-Day commemoration. And he said all the leaders agreed that in meetings with the Russian president their message needs to be consistent: get out of Crimea.

Still, he said he’s not afraid of taking a harder line against Putin than other leaders.

“We’re not afraid to take stands that then put us offside others, from time to time.”

Harper got some support for his hard line from Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who arrived Sunday in Ottawa for his first official visit.

The Napoleon complex is indeed dangerous. It is just that the whole tough-man routine looks ridiculous, especially homo-erotic drooling of his fanboys.

But it is a fact that ridiculous clowns have waged terrible tragedies around the world. So, yes, everybody should fear Putin.

Big talk from a one-eyed fat man. Have the bankers decided they need another world war?

Why do Russians have a habit of murdering their neighbors? Just in the recent few decades we have Russians killing in: Hungary 1956, Czechoslovakia 1968, Vilnius 1991, Georgia 2008, Ukraine 2014.

Same Russian chauvinist movie, different year. Nothing Christian at all about Putinist Russian fascism.

My gaydar locator went off on that Putin naked on horseback pic. Straight out of a San Fran gay day parade but some of his fan boys love that stuff.

What an oddball Right-Left coalition Putin has. I suppose the Marxist fringe supports Putin because he is a good Christian? Nonsense.

That Eurasian stuff from Dugin is cuckoo for cocoa puffs. He belongs in a straight jacket. It seems they have deliberately not translated a lot of that stuff into English.

Dugin and the rest would be amusing if it wasn’t so serious. These are the folks close to Putler. One of them was threatening WW3 against Finland yesterday if they join NATO. They are deadly serious about reconstructing the Russian Empire/USSR. Western dupes who support this claptrap have no clue the depths the Russians who go to. As we see in Ukraine, these Russians are totally willing to kill thousands to achieve their political goals.

Canada has a large Ukrainian population who form a powerful voting bloc, which explains the Canadian government’s stance on the current Ukraine/Russia spat.
