A Taxing Tonic: Rep. DeLauro Wants Federal Soda Tax
CNSNews ^ | June 9, 2014 | Eric Scheiner

Video at source.

(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) says she’s getting ready to propose a federal soda tax, “I am working on legislation right now to tax sugar-sweetened drinks, like sodas, in a way that reflects the serious damage they are doing to our health.”

DeLauro made the recorded comments for the Center For Science In The Public Interest“National Soda Summit” on June 5th.

"When a two-liter cola is 99 cents and blueberries are over three dollars, something has gone very wrong," DeLauro says.

“It is long past time that we pass and support policies that work to our better health instead. With that in mind I’m working on legislation right now to tax sugar-sweetened drinks, like sodas, in a way that reflects the serious damage they are doing to our health.”

DeLauro continued, “I hope to introduce legislation in a matter of weeks.”

This isn’t the first time DeLauro has poured out her thoughts on a national soda tax. She had previously mentioned the idea during a press conference on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in 2012.

[ She might want to look at cost of producing high fructose corn syrup and the influence of federal corn subsidies on that. ]

NAILED IT!

Government creates one problem by shoving money into the pockets of it’s cronies only to try to solve that problem by reaching into the pockets of another business.....

One of my idiot relatives is a democtrat farmer, i once told him that they should end gov subsidies and he was all pissed off, then i told him I would also lower the income tax at the same time, he looked dumbfounded...

Oh goody, another tax on the poor. Women and children hardest hit.
BTW wouldn’t you love to know how many people add sugar to their blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries? I’ll bet it’s a large number. Ever think of that Rosa?

Fortunately, the fab that I’m in at the moment has an eyewash station.

Now, if I can just find the steel wool...

How about not selling sodas to anyone under the age of 21, just like alcohol?.....................

I propose a punitive tax on social engineers. Or maybe just an extended hunting season, no tag required.

Can somebody remind me what freedom was like?

Kris had it right, “Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose.”

There are a lot of free people where I live in KY. They live in mobile homes with holes in the floors where the wood has rotted, and they drive beater cars with not one straight fender, and they always buy their tires used.
