Hillary Clinton: We Were Dead Broke Clinton: 'We Gave Speeches to Pay Off Debt, Numerous Homes' Share Tweet Email

BY: Washington Free Beacon Staff June 9, 2014 8:40 am

Hillary Clinton, who recently raked in $5 million dollars in speaking fees in 15 months, recounted to Diane Sawyer the sad tale of her former destitution, telling her, “We came out of the White House not only dead broke but in debt.”

According to Clinton, she and her husband, who has made over $100 million since leaving the White House, “struggled to, you know, piece together the resources for mortgages for houses, for Chelsea’s education, you know, it was not easy.”

But, as Clinton’s story goes, the two hard-working, middle-class millionaires somehow managed to put food on the table in their multiple houses, even though they “had to make double the money, because of, obviously, taxes, and then pay off the debts and get us houses and take care of family members.”

Although Sawyer wondered if Americans would understand why Hillary Clinton needs a speaking fee of $200,000, “five times the median income in this country for one speech”, Clinton assured her that she’s taking the high road: “I thought making speeches for money was a much better thing than getting connected with any one group or company as so many people who leave public life do.”

Yeah. we read dead broke. But then I made some nearly $100,000 on cattle futures, (shorting M0nica Lewinksy) Then we made a bundle on the Chinese electioneering money, but we mostly made money by having ourselves listed as beneficiaries for all thhse folks who died mysteriously the authorties could never pin on us.

The Clintons need to start rethinking their strategy....maybe we will hear Hillary was a poor black child in Arkansas?....

Because it seems to me they are relying heavily on "white privilege" to get back into office. The Clintons' have benefitted from, and are climbing back into office, using privileges far beyond those of the working class voter. " White privilege" denotes the array of advantages the Clintons have cultivated over years in public office.

These two are shadowed by the perks of "white privilege":

<><> massive wealth....

<><>multiple homes in posh enclaves....

<><> the chain of high public offices....

<><> privileged friends in high places....

<><> global connections....

<><> affirmations of their own worth....

<><> greater social status...

<><>expansive freedoms wealth and connections provide...

<><> unlimited access to the press to speak freely.

Hillary is relying on the "income equality" bugaboo to hoist herself into office This is "white privilege" in a nutshell....the Clintons label others as "different" while presenting themselves as "normal."

Bill Clinton has collected an estimated $100 million in speaking fees since leaving the White House, with millions more in book sales from memoirs by both Hillary and Bill.

They could have a combined net worth of anywhere from $100 to $200 million.

How can someone who is "dead broke" afford to pay for one million copies of a book she has written and warehouse them even before the book is due out?

Notice she looked down, then to the side, A sign of deception.

Or shame maybe. Technically, she may have a point, but she's using indebtedness to justify her and her husband getting outrageous fees for personal appearances, so it may not be that she knows she's telling an untruth so much as she's guilty about taking the money and coming up with such a feeble excuse.

They have 80 million dollars or more now. But there was a brief transitional period when Bill left office when their debts exceded their assets. More here: The Clintons say they left the White House in debt. Wait, what?

Of course, being an ex-President is an asset in itself that brings in a lot of money, so if they were required to estimate the value of that on their taxes, they weren't really broke.

BTW, why would ABC release key portions of the interview in advance, on the morning of the night it airs? Is that supposed to increase the ratings for the main event? Doubt it. I'm not a big hockey fan, but I hope that the hockey game tonight on NBC gets better ratings than the overhyped Clinton interview.

All tax returns of recent presidents can be found here... Pretty interesting. http://www.taxanalysts.com/www/website.nsf/Web/Presidential
TaxReturns?OpenDocument

Clinton’s 1995 Return - Business income $ 88,441
Clinton’s 1996 Return - Business income $742,852 labeled royalties on It Takes A village
Clinton’s 1997 Return - Business income $281,898 labeled royalties on It Takes A village

Without looking further at the schedules accompanying the returns, I don’t know what the $88,441 in 1995 was for but you don’t need to dig too deep to know these people were not living in poverty - WITH ALL EXPENSES IN THE WHITE HOUSE PAID FOR by us?????????

How did Diane Sawyer conveniently forget that shortly after entering the WH, these people hauled in royalties which put them on easy street? Oh! I guess they gave them to charity!

They came out of AR without a pot or a window and after a few months in the WH, they were ~~blank~~ rich! They may be smug and cunning but they aren’t too swift if they think this won’t come back to bite them in the posterior.

On a different note, I caught Chelsea Clinton giving a speech to a bunch of women on C Span on Saturday night. Needless to say, I spent about 5 minutes there. What a dolt! She barely opens her mouth and speaks with her lips nearly closed - horrible! Apparently all the beauty parlors closed up shop as she was in dire need of a shampoo and a decent hairdo.........

I know WJC's salary as AR governor was kind of meager, but what about HRC's salary at the Rose Law Firm and her profits on the amazing cattle futures transaction, for example?

HRC was never poor in her life. She grew up in a well-to-do Chicago suburb.

Old link on how the Clintons left the WH originally.

Excerpts:

Excerpts from a newspaper article back in 2001....
WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton say they’ll be happy to return the fancy sofas, rattan chairs and other furnishings they took from the White House if it turns out that the gifts were meant to dress up the executive mansion for future presidents too.

“All of these items were considered gifts to us,” Mrs. Clinton, now a Democratic senator from New York, said Monday in Rochester, New York. “That’s what the permanent record of the White House showed. ... But if there is a different intent, we will certainly honor the intention of the donor.”

The White House curator’s office is working with the Clintons to clarify any confusion about whether the items the Clintons took were personal gifts or items that were supposed to stay, White House press secretary Ari Fleischer said.

In a statement, the Clintons said each of the gifts they accepted were identified by the White House gift office as a present to them. They said none of the gifts they took, including some $23,000 worth of household furnishings in question, was on a curator’s list of official White House property.

“Gifts did not leave the White House without the approval of the White House usher’s and curator’s offices,” the Clintons said in the statement that addressed the latest sour note to follow the former president and his wife out of the executive mansion. “Of course, if the White House now determines that a cataloging error occurred ... any item in question will be returned.”

The Washington Post quoted two donors in Monday’s editions as saying the furnishings they gave were intended for the White House, not the Clintons. They were Steve Mittman of New York, whose donation was valued at $19,900; and Joy Ficks of Cincinnati, who gave $3,650 worth.

And in its editions Tuesday, the newspaper quoted a former furniture industry executive, Brad Noe, as saying a sofa worth nearly $3,000 that he was supposed to have given to the Clintons wasn’t meant for them, but for the White House collection. “I would never give a gift to the Clintons,” Noe said.

“Everyone involved, including the White House curator, believed that each item was a gift to the Clintons,” said Jim Kennedy, speaking for the Clintons. “Now you have a couple of people saying that they didn’t intend for them to go to the Clintons and, of course, we want their wishes to be honored.”

The day before they left the White House, the Clintons released a list of $190,000 in gifts they chose to take with them, many of which they could use for their two new homes in Washington and in Chappaqua, New York.

But after criticism erupted, they offered to pay $86,000 for about half the gifts.

Now it’s the other half at issue. Some items in this group were on a National Park Service list of donations for the 1993 White House redecoration project.

The gift flap is one of several problems dogging Clinton’s first weeks as an ex-president and his wife’s first weeks as a senator.

Critics also questioned Clinton’s decision to rent an office in New York City that would have cost taxpayers more than $600,000 a year. Last week, he said his foundation would pay half the cost.

The Truth:
The final, official report from the Government Accounting Office was released on June 11, 2002. The 220 page document says there was damage, although not as much as some of the early reports had suggested. The GAO says the damage included 62 missing computer keyboards, 26 cell phones, two cameras, ten antique doorknobs and several presidential medallions and office signs. The damage estimate was about $20,000. Clinton critics say the report proves that the departing Clinton staff members acted recklessly and disrespectfully. Clinton supporters say the report shows that the allegations of vandalism were exaggerated and that there were similar incidents when Clinton took over the White House from the staff of George Bush.

The GAO report concludes that even though damage was verified and that some of it appeared to have been intentional, there was not clear evidence of who was responsible for it.

This has been a subject of contention since President Bush took office. There were reports of vandalism, graffiti, and obscene messages in White House offices by outgoing Clinton staffers. Bush downplayed the reports saying he wanted to move on with the presidency. Clinton supporters, however, charged that the story was not true and that the Bush forces had made up the story to make Bush’s staff look better than Clinton’s. Former President Clinton offered to pay for any damage and his supporters called for an investigation.
