According to a new study published in the journal Nature Neuroscience, rats can feel regret a cognitive behavior once thought to be uniquely human.
Regret is the recognition that you made a mistake, that if you had done something else, you would have been better off, said Prof David Redish from the University of Minnesota, who is the senior author on the study.

Except for Hillary
but apparently not for trading 5 high value terrorist leaders for one deserter.
Damn! Beat me to it!
I don’t believe it. If they did they wouldn’t have put the o in the WH for a second term.
DemocRATS regret nothing. Nothing I tell you.
Yeah, but do they act upon it?
The only thing rats regret is the lost election.
In before the usual “Who paid for this study?” statement.
Because they voted for Obama?
That's what is of utmost importance to Rats - that they feel good about themselves.
But, unlike Humans, Rats will always say Chuck Hagel makes all the bad decisions.
I thought this was going to and article about the election of BHO.
Aww!!!! Is it Algernon?
Another attempt by the state-run media to give favorable publicity to King Barack I, I see.
I always wanted to know about that...
Thank goodness they spent umpteen millions of the taxpayers money in grants to find out...
Reading human emotions into animal behavior is a stupid move. Rats are not people. There is no way to know if the animal feels regret.
The “study” is a fraud, as are most.
How much did this “study” cost the taxpayers? Couldn’t research money be better spent for things like looking for a cure for cancer?
Now what they need to study is if over time, if rats are infected with Toxoplasmosis, if their feelings of regret will be diminished by the protozoa, and the rats will be retrained to be attracted to regret.
When infected rats experience fear, the protozoa releases an enzyme that makes their brain release dopamine, which is the “feel good” brain chemical, and GABA, which makes them half-asleep. Over time, this trains the rats to be attracted that that which they fear, and should fear.
While regret is based in a minor fear, it is still a fear. So the protozoa might retrain them to consistently make bad decisions.
Anywhere from 11 to 30 million Americans are believed to be infected with toxoplasmosis as well.
Rats make great chefs. I know because I saw it in a movie.
You forget, Democrats have never lost an election. Those are always “stolen”. Remember?
The fact that Eric Cantor has shown no regret makes me doubt this study.
Democrats have never felt regret except that they haven’t done enough damage.
