Iraq's prime minister has asked parliament to declare a state of emergency over a militant attack in Mosul.
Nouri al-Maliki made the call in a televised news conference Tuesday.
Militants effectively seized of Iraq's second-largest city of Mosul on Tuesday.
Iraqi security forces abandoned their posts and militants overran the provincial government headquarters and other key buildings, dealing a serious blow to Baghdad's attempts to tame a widening insurgency in the country.
The gunmen torched several of the city's police stations, freeing detainees held in lockups.
The fighters are believed to be affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, an al-Qaida splinter group that is behind the bulk of the bloody attacks in Iraq and is among the most ruthless rebel forces in Syria.

Yes, was it "quiet" because there was enough inside involvement to have a shotless coup. Or was it "quiet" because the media won't report on it, less they make Obama look bad, or their middle eastern owners upset?
When the Iraq thing began - really, when it was restarted - in 2003 I said it would buy us time in the War Against Islam. I was hoping for 20 years. We got three. That is absolutely and directly ascribable to 0bama and nobody else.

No doubt about that. The “exchange” was a clear sign of weakness and concession to demanding thugs. Our adversaries around the world also noticed and now see nothing but green lights ahead to do whatever they want. They see the U.S. as having backed down.
Weakness invites aggression. Always has, always will.
We’re only in the first inning of this “game”. Things are going to get a lot worse IMO.
If Iran has anything to fear from taking Iraq, it’s either from the Sunni’s in Iraq or liberals within their country. They have nothing to fear from the US government.
And zero has rolled out the red carpet. Look for this type of activity to increase at break-neck speed.

Taking delivery of the first fighter sends “a clear sign to the world and the region that a stable and strong Iraq in a partnership of choice with the United States is what we are after.”
