Hours after being elected president, MK Reuven Rivlin published a personal post on his Facebook page, in which he thanked the MKs who voted for him.

"I want to thank you. Those who voted for me - for placing your confidence in me and those who didn’t vote for me - for placing their confidence in me in the future,” he wrote.

“I hope to have the strength to fulfill the mission in a way that will meet the expectations of my supporters and a dispel the concerns of those who were opposed to me,” continued Rivlin.

“I thank all who accompanied me on the long journey, both in the beautiful moments and the difficult moments. And first and foremost - my wife Nehama, my children and grandchildren.”

Rivlin arrived Tuesday evening at his Jerusalem home, where he told reporters, "This morning you met me here when I left for a day that was not an easy one. I went out with hopes and I was glad to see that the public sentiments were reflected in the decision of the people's representatives in the Knesset. I left my home this morning full of hope and expectations and I returned tonight with satisfaction.”

Rivlin implicitly referred to the tense relationship between him and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

"I have no bad blood and I have no heavy heart," he declared.

Netanyahu had made several attempts to block Rivlin from becoming president and reportedly continued to do so even on Tuesday morning, right before the elections.

In Israel, the “President” is a largely powerless, ceremonial position. The Prime Minister actually runs the government.

I’ve read for weeks how Netanyahu was working against Rivlin’s victory....even today.

What’s the bad blood? Isn’t Rivlin part of the same party?

Same party, popular and charismatic, therefore rivals for control, same as Feiglin.
