Survey: Troops Expect Army to Prosecute Bergdahl

[SNIP]...Responses from more than 8,800 service members, their spouses, veterans and retirees to questions regarding Bergdahl's release show the military community would not forgive Bergdahl and want him held accountable if he willingly left his post on June 30, 2009...[SNIP]...About 95 percent of the more than 1,000 active duty, Guard and Reserve troops who responded to the survey said Bergdahl should face a court-martial or separate punishment if it is found he deserted his unit.

If Bergdahl is convicted, 86 percent of survey respondents said Bergdahl should not receive back pay for the past five years. The voluntary survey was conducted online from June 3-4.

A report by Military.com found that Bergdahl could receive up to $300,000 in back pay upon his repatriation to the U.S. However, he could forfeit that pay pending any desertion or Absence Without Leave (AWOL) charges under the Uniformed Code of Military Justice.

My comrades still in uniform are highly likely to be disappointed.

If we can't prosecute Lois Lerner...then this guy is going scott-free.

I expect the word will come down... Don’t prosecute.

That might be a bad mistake. The military is seething over this, VA, Benghazi and things in general.

I think you are right. A lengthy court martial keeps Bergdahl in the news cycle. Obama wants him to be yesterday’s news already. I suspect he’ll be punished with a field grade article 15 in short order, barred from re-enlistment and summarily discharged from the Army on a fast track. He’ll probably be given an honorable discharge though, to match the meme coming out of the White Hut. The Army will claim that justice was meted out, Bergdahl fades away...

I think you've hit the nail on the head.

The WH wants this to fade away...and so, fade away it will.

The only consolation I think we will have is knowing that obama knows damned well that he screwed this one up.

Not that it means a damn thing.

We know about all the other things he screwed up and yet it hasn't made a difference.

FUBO.

the headline is EXTREMELY misleading... the survey says they think it SHOULD BE prosecuted, not that they think it will be!!!

Me, too. Obama will not only not allow them to prosecute, he will quash any investigation.

SGM, Obama knows he misread the tea leaves on Bergdahl, but he could care less. He got what he wanted, which was a release of GITMO prisoners to placate his leftist acolytes and his muslim brethren....and he will continue to do it in other ways. Our troops and their families are the immediate bill payers, unfortunately, as these terrorists have just been put back in their jihad. Obama is directly responsible for giving material aid to the Taliban and al Qaeda, both in terms of providing them renewed strength in leadership and a recruiting boom, along with handing over $$$$$ to aid their cause.

No doubt Bergdahl will wind up in something like a witness protection program, that’s the only way this thing can be buried.

The Bamster will be between rock and hard place on this. But he will come down on the side of no prosecution as least damaging to his legacy. He doesn’t care what the military wants.

Let me get this straight... you're saying that if Lois Lerner isn't prosecuted than all courts in the country should be shut down and every criminal should walk free? Or just that all deserters and traitors should walk free? You are putting us on, right?

Get a f***ing grip GOPJ.

What I am saying is that I am predicting that Bergdahl is not going to get prosecuted-- because we have a lawless Administration.

Remember-- our courts are open--but civil prosecutions are handled by Eric Holder's courrupt Justic Department. And what if the Commander-in-Chief tells the Army not to prosecute?

At that point my prediction that dumb-o-crats will become the party of angry blacks and ONLY angry blacks will come true...
