Tennessee State Rep. Joe Carr, who is challenging incumbent Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), predicted that Alexander will go the way of House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor in an appearance on CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" on Wednesday.
Carr stated, “Sen. Alexander has a similar problem that Leader Cantor had in that he's out of touch with his Republican base in Tennessee.”
Like Cantor’s primary challenger, Dave Brat, Carr says that immigration is a strong area of contrast between him and his primary challenger, he declared “the problem Lamar Alexander has and so many of the establishment Republicans have, is they are taking themselves away or are detracting from what the Republican National Committee platform in 2012 specifically says, and when it says no amnesty at all for illegal immigrants, and so it's Lamar Alexander who's running away from the Republican platform and its conservatives in the tea party trying to embrace that Republican National Committee platform.”
He also pointed to Alexander’s vote for ObamaCare funding, arguing “if ObamaCare is an attack on Constitution, it stands to reason that Lamar’s vote is also an attack on the Constitution.” Carr declared that Republican voters want a candidate who “will stand and defend the Republican National Committee platform instead of running to the Democrats in capitulation,” and hopes to send a message to incumbents that “when they reject that platform the day after they get elected, then the voters the next time around are going to reject them.”

Why is that?
East TN tends to be more liberal...particularly the Knoxville area.

I need to know all about this, because we are planning on retiring in East Tennessee next March. This could change our plans.
In looking at the voting history of several of the communities in the tri-cities area, I was happy to see R’s over 70%. And the PVI numbers around R+20.
Of course, voting republican certainly isn’t the same thing as being conservative! But those numbers are better than what we are escaping!
What areas are more conservative?
We considered Kentucky and Virginia, but ruled those out as nor conservative enough.
Because Lamar hails from Maryville, TN. That is what matters to so many east Tennesseans more than the actual issues.
Has he got them perks in the past?
Sadly, congressmen can buy votes that way. Robert Byrd comes to mind.
Don’t let the liberal leaning deter you. East Tennessee is still beautiful country and there ARE conservatives. I honestly believe that most of the “leaning” is connected to the University of Tennessee, which is located in Knoxville. Most of the areas outside the city limits of the major cities of Knoxville, Chattanooga and Nashville are pretty conservative.
The idea is not to completely avoid them (liberals)...but to infiltrate and influence them with good prayer and common sense. ;-)
Also, the people of Tennessee are very friendly and helpful overall.
I checked again and District 1, where we want to live because it is near the mountains, is R+25, the highest number in the state. So I think we’ll be ok there;)
The liberals I’ve had the misfortune to deal with have been too brain damaged to convince of anything. They do not use logic or rational thought, so having a discussion with them deteriorates quickly into name calling and emotional outbursts on their part. I’d rather wrestle with a pig. I’d stay here if there was any chance of teaching them to think and understand logic.
Nah, we’re moving to be back in the US for our twilight years. And yes, we’ve noticed how wonderful the people are. I will, however, have lots of stories and warnings about life in an invaded state for anyone that will listen. I’d hate to see Tennessee ruined too!
BTW, only the districts containing Nashville and Memphis have more democrats than republicans. So you need to infiltrate the cities, not much fun.
Good luck with converting people. After living so long in enemy territory, I’m fed up. Give me a few years, and I’ll probably join you ;)
If your coming from the Northeast, the Dems in Tennessee are not nearly as liberal as what you are used to. They would be considered moderate Republicans up north.

So was I. But it didn’t surprise me. Newt endorsed Dede Scozzafava, who went on to endorse the democrat in a congressional race when it became clear she couldn’t win. Whatever it takes to defeat the common enemy: conservatives.
Strange timing, though, don’t you think. Apparently, Lamar needs some shoring up.
