BREAKING: Feds Threaten the Entire State of Oklahoma
Conservative Tribune ^ | June 11 2014 | Conservative Tribune

Posted on 06/11/2014 1:34:19 PM PDT by PoloSec

When Oklahoma asserted its Tenth Amendment rights by signing legislation making it the third state to ditch Common Core education standards, it was only a matter of time before the federal government pushed back.

Common Core standards are an attempt by the Obama administration to push further into the education system and eventually create a nationalized curriculum designed to transform children into wards of the state.

Many states have recognized the danger these standards pose both to freedom and the quality of the education their children receive and have began creating legislation that allows them to come up with their own standards.

Indiana was the first state to give Common Core the boot, followed by South Carolina, and then Oklahoma.

Now U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan has unleashed a veiled threat of punishment against the state during a press briefing delivered earlier this week.

via Daily Caller:

In a press briefing at the White House on Monday, though, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan struck back by vaguely suggesting that the federal government may now punish Oklahoma.

Duncan asserted that “40 percent of high school graduates” in Oklahoma “have to take remedial classes when they go to college” and only “25 percent of Oklahoma’s eighth-graders in math are proficient.”

The Obama administration education chief declared that the Common Core Standards Initiative is a panacea for this problem.

“We got a dropout problem we got to deal with,” Duncan said. “We want to make sure our high school graduates aren’t having to take remedial classes, burn up Pell grants, burn up student loans taking non-credit bearing. And right now, roughly 40 percent of those graduates in Oklahoma are having to do that. We don’t think that’s good for those young people, their families, or for the country.”

Duncan had ominous words for states that buck the Common Core trend.

“We partner with states whether they’re in Common Core or have their own high standards. But where we will challenge status quo is when states dummy down standards,” he warned.

It’s obvious that the federal government is licking its wounds at not being able to bully states into accepting their liberal education standards. The truth of the matter is that as long as Oklahoma stands its ground, there is little the White House can do.

The government needs to be reminded that it’s power is derived from the people, and the people have the constitutional right to take that power back, as they did so in this particular case. More states need to get on board in the fight against Common Core and send a strong message that states will not be bullied by the federal government.

Refuse to comply.

Resist.

And when they come to impose their will by force (which all tyrants will) - we do what our Forbears did.

The feds frequently punish states by withholding highway funds. This is why we have a seatbelt law here. The feds said we implement it or lose funds. I understand there are a lot of laws like that. I’d imagine there are federal lunch funds or after class care and the like that would put pressure on the state from voters if suddenly people had to feed or care for their own kids.

Sorta reminds you of Obama’s threat to Roberts, saying that he’d hate to see something happen to his Supreme Court. Isn’t this enough grounds for impeachment? Threatening a SC justice to give him his desired answer, threatening force, which sounds very much like the thuggery that is Chicago. I have never seen an administration in my lifetime that was so lawless and so criminial in its actions, except for the Johnson and Clinton administration, but Obama takes it to a new level.

“But where we will challenge status quo is when states dummy down standards.” It’s DUMB down, dummy.

Plus, it’s a backwards structured sentence which should read, “When states dumb down standards, we will challenge the status quo.”

I have not seen the social engineering component talked about because my little one is just 5, but what they did in kindergarten was good and hard. Already pushing algebra concepts in kindergarten.
I don't see anything to help already failing families because it is a family failure already if a child doesn't do the work that was there before core came along.
Now maybe there are social studies BS down the line I haven't seen yet that would make me scream through the roof. So far it is just tough math and English for the little ones.

Now, if you have new tougher stuff to do with kids; how are the already failing families where kids come from muti-generational second grade dropouts going to do better under core when core obviously makes you have to do lots of work home or fail?

This is not the first time the Federal Government intruded in the affairs of Oklahoma.

In 2010, A proposed amendment to Oklahoma’s state constitution that would have prevented state courts from considering sharia (Islamic) and international law in Oklahoma courts, WHICH WAS OVERWHELMINGLY PASSED BY VOTERS IN A STATE REFERENDUM, was struck down by a leftist federal judge who declared the amendment UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

The end result:

Good point.

Yet another illustration of why this country needs a Second Party, a political party whose common denominator is to reduce Federal government on all fronts, to remove it from places where its role is superfluous. Axing the Fed back 60 percent would do wonders for the freedom and prosperity of America. People want to vote FOR that kind of approach, but both major parties offer the opposite.

Starting with the days of “new math”, the evolution of the teaching of mathematics probably goes like this:

The following examples may help to clarify the difference between the new and old math.

1960: A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of this price. What is his profit?

1970 (Traditional math): A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80. What is his profit?

1975 (New Math): A logger exchanges a set L of lumber for a set M of money. The cardinality of set M is 100 and each element is worth $1.

(a) make 100 dots representing the elements of the set M

(b) The set C representing costs of production contains 20 fewer points than set M. Represent the set C as a subset of the set M.

(c) What is the cardinality of the set P of profits?

1990 (Dumbed-down math): A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80 and his profit is $20. Underline the number 20.

1997 (Whole Math): By cutting down a forest full of beautiful trees, a logger makes $20.

(a) What do you think of this way of making money?

(b) How did the forest birds and squirrels feel?

(c) Draw a picture of the forest as you’d like it to look.

The indoctrinated pupils end up not even talking about mathematics at all.

I am becoming convinced that even if armed resistance and a violent struggle to regain our liberty happens, many in the government would not have a problem using nukes to keep the deal going for themselves and their buddies They would have no problem incinerating Oklahoma or Texas or a bunch of other “flyover” states, as bad for business as that would be.

It’s long past time when the blue states told the Fed Gov to piss off. This idea that they use tax dollars that they’ve taken from the state taxpayers then threaten to not return any of the money unless the state does what it’s told is simply blackmail.
