Makes calls with Grover Norquist seeking conservative support
Sen. Rand Paul on Wednesday waded deeper into an issue that has proved perilous to some of his GOP colleagues, throwing his political weight behind an establishment lobby effort to get Congress to reform the countrys immigration system this year.
Mr. Paul, a libertarian-leaning Republican from Kentucky and possible 2016 presidential hopeful, participated in a telephone conference call to conservative and business leaders in favor of immigration reform in an effort brokered by anti-tax activist Grover Norquist, The Washington Times has learned.
The business group, the Partnership for a New American Economy, immediately blasted an email Wednesday evening to supporters crowing that Mr. Paul had formally joined its pro-reform effort.
The timing of the call only heightened the potential stakes for Mr. Paul just one day after House Majority Leader Eric Cantor was shockingly ousted from office in the Virginia Republican primary in favor of a little-known college professor.
Tea party activists who whipped up a get-out-the-vote effort for Mr. Cantors opponent said they were motivated by the incumbents advocacy for immigration reform, actions on Obamacare and vote to raise the nations debt ceiling.
Mr. Cantor was the second high-profile Republican to suffer political damage by stepping forward on the immigration issue. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, another potential presidential contender, lost the support of his tea party base when he advocated a plan for immigration that some argued created a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.
Mr. Paul, a longtime favorite of the tea party movement, has made it clear that he believes Congress needs the courage to enact immigration reform.

Our Ralph Nader, bless his pointed head.
Kiss our Collective As**s Rand Paul ..you proverbial dumbs**t.
Why are the loonies so freaking stooooopid?
Every numb nut in DC is doubling down every day
Cloward/Piven in action
Sorry Rand. Amnesty is a ‘jump the shark’ issue. C ya!
You don’t listen, do ya?
You are done Paul. Get a job with the ACLU
Wow, Rand is still on his “their is no way I want to be president” tour.
It’s called the hubris and arrogance of the political elite.
They don’t get it and never will. Too much money to be made from their corporate masters.
Courage. I love the way they think it is courageous to ignore the rule of law. It is courageous to ignore your constituants and govern against their will. It is courageous to be beholden to the Chamber of Commerce who want a new influx of illegal aliens for cheap labor. It is courageous to falsely frame the argument that refusing to enforce the law means the law is broken. It is courageous to reward people who came to our country illegally, used falsified government documents to secure employment, and services for which they are not qualified. Courageous to reward people that couldn’t care less about this country, they are only here to take. I guess I will add him to the list of rinos I will not support from here forward.
But...but...without the Latino vote republicans will be a permanent minority for ever................../sarc
wow....this is very disappointing. Rand Paul is better than this. Norquist is a menace to America.
Not one quote by Paul, pure spin by GOPe operatives trying to split conservatives so they can nominate Jeb Bush.

Why would we want to let more potential workers into the U.S. when we have so many, way too many, people sitting on porches when they could be working, producing goods instead of drawing unemployment checks?
I don’t think “it’s Bush’s fault” is going to cut it. They quote the guy who runs Paul’s PAC.
“A top Paul aide confirmed the alliance of Mr. Paul and Mr. Norquist on immigration reform, after The Times received a copy of an email sent to Republicans, Democrats, independents and others thought to be open to some kind of reform.
Rand made the calls on immigration reform with Grover this morning, Doug Stafford, who heads Mr. Pauls political action committee, told The Times.
The email from the group announcing Mr. Pauls participation opened with a subject line that stated that the senator adds voice to #CallForReform.
Today, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) joined Grover Norquist to talk about the importance of passing immigration reform this year on the second call in a series with conservative leaders, the groups executive director, Jeremy Robbins, wrote in the email.
The message went on to note that Senator Paul follows Sal Russo, co-founder of the Tea Party Express, who launched the series last month by calling for an overhaul of Americas immigration laws this year.
The email concluded by noting that Mr. Paul and Mr. Russo join an increasingly large group of conservatives who understand that the future of our economy depends on fixing our outdated immigration reform system.”
Send what you just wrote in an email to him.
It absolutely is Cloward-Piven in action - right there for all to see.
For those who don’t understand what Cloward-Piven is and how Obama ties in DIRECTLY with those who swore to destroy America through the very actions that Obama has done, please see http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3164857/posts?page=59#59 for an overview. This is a movement that Obama was directly connected to, as the co-author of the Cloward-Piven “Strategy of Manufactured Crisis” was also the co-founder of The New Party which was formed to carry out that plan. Barack Obama was a signed member of The New Party.
The strategy of manufactured crisis is also something that KGB defector Yuri Bezmenov spoke about as one step in the process to overthrow an enemy country from within. It’s the step immediately following the DEMORALIZATION step - and anybody hearing the defeatism and resigned acceptance of our supposed inability to take our country back will easily recognize that as the fulfillment of the demoralization step. Anybody who hasn’t heard Yuri Bezmenov’s description of that process should see the youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlpODYhnPEo and/or read the transcript at https://mcalvanyintelligenceadvisor.com/demoralization-destabilization-insurgency-normalization
What we are seeing today is the culmination of decades of work on the part of Obama and his puppet-masters, to destroy this country. This is NOT “incompetence” as the regime would have us believe. Obama belonged to the groups that planned exactly what he is doing right now, to exactly the results we’re seeing right now.
Obama is a foreign enemy combatant who was placed into our White House to finally complete the coup to overthrow America. I don’t know any way to say it more clearly than that.
Larry Sellin overheard one of the 2012 R primary candidates explain to a questioner that nobody will touch Obama’s eligibility problem because they all know that the treachery goes WAY deeper than anybody is willing to delve. IOW, they KNOW Obama being in our White House is treachery. They’re just afraid to confront it because they know how deep this hydra’s tentacles go into every aspect of American life. They know that 2008 was a coup long in the works by America’s enemies.
And now we’re seeing our enemies’ fangs shown more and more openly - with our enemies gloating and trampling all over everything, aided by the foreign enemy combatant who always serves the interests of the Islamists and communists and never serves the needs of a free America.
“Al Qaeda is inside the building”, said the Benghazi witness to Congress.
Immigration reform is synonymous amnesty.
Amnesty is synonymous with immigration reform.
Hey, if we saved some of those jobs for Americans, then college graduates would be able to GET A JOB and then there wouldn’t be any college loan crisis to use as the excuse to undermine capitalism...
Manufactured crisis. It’s what Obama’s been doing ever since he moved to Chicago (if not before). See my post right before this one for more information about that.
I do not like the Chamber immigration plan
Open the border, let in a bunch of low skill workers, pay them minimum wage, beat them at work like rented mules, while the Citizens live off the immigrant labor?????
So Rand Paul is as kooky and as lost as his old man.
I think they pretty much ignore email. I am seriously thinking of sending him something snail mail.
“One ring to rule them all, and in the darkness bind them...”
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Either we get Constitutional governance back so that power is never held in one place, or else we will watch leader after leader after leader fall to the power of “the ring”.
Faxes at least get read once by somebody in their office.
If you’re not his constituent they will throw away whatever you send him. Unless, maybe, if it’s campaign money. That’s the only input they care about.
Only if you’re their constituent. I was told by a staffer that the first thing they check for is if you’re a constituent. If you’ve got the wrong address or don’t say you’re a constituent, into the trash it goes. Or they may forward it to the person who supposedly represents you.
I have a lot of sympathy for the kids who are in the center of this gawdawful mess but it’s Obama who is at base endangering their lives. These folks in DC have no soul, none.
Think we need this cartoon on front page of Free Republic with Border Guards hands tied behind their backs and need to remove the wall since we don’t even have a fence!
Not one word by Paul, not one quote, nothing. Pure spin.
Somehow I doubt the head of his PAC made it all up.
But, if you really believe they’re making it up, you better get in touch with the Washington Times and have them retract the story.
And the head of Paul’s PAC to correct the record.
Taking everything at face value (which I don’t) all it says is that Paul took a phone call. Big deal.
It is a big deal when a sitting U.S. Senator works with the king of amnesty, Grover Norquist, to promote it.
But like I said, if it isn't true I'm sure we'll see the Senator calling for the Times to correct the record. Right?
In fact, since this story has been out since earlier today, and it’s almost tomorrow, surely there’s a correction from the Senator out there, if it isn’t true. Right?
Really sad if he thinks of doing this.
1) Securing the border with the military and/or National Guard
2) Mandatory e-verify for all jobs annually
3) $100k fines for business who fail to everify or knowingly subvert everify.
4) Identity theft crimes for illegal immigrants carrying mandatory 3 year prison stays.
5) Linking visas to the everify system
That should be plenty enough.
I really pray that Rand Paul is playing Bad Cop/Good Cop game with the establishment with Ted Cruz....
I really pray that this is the case....
But I will probably be disappointed... I am glad i don’t live in Kentucky and have to make the decision to primary his rear end should the above not be the case...
I do not support amnesty, I support legal immigration and recognize that the country has been enriched by those who seek the freedom to make a life for themselves. However, millions of illegal immigrants are crossing our border without our knowledge and causing a clear threat to our national security. I want to work in the Senate to secure our border immediately. In addition, I support the creation of a border fence and increased border patrol capabilities.
Immigrants should meet the current requirements, which should be enforced and updated. I realize that subsidizing something creates more of it, and do not think the taxpayer should be forced to pay for welfare, medical care and other expenses for illegal immigrants. Once the subsidies for illegal immigration are removed, the problem will likely become far less common.
I support local solutions to illegal immigration as protected by the 10th amendment. I support making English the official language of all documents and contracts.
Millions crossing our border without our knowledge constitutes a clear threat to our nation's security. Instead of closing military bases at home and renting space in Europe, I am open to the construction of bases to protect our border.
Let me know when Paul changes his position on immigration.
Hanging out with Grove Norquist speaks so loud I just can’t hear the nice words on his website.
Anyhow, I’ll be watching for his repudiation of this.
I guess they'll have to retract too...
From the Breitbart story:
“Paul, a potential 2016 contender, reportedly said that “amnesty is a word thats trapped us,” and, according to CNN, emphasized, “If you want immigration reform, there has to be openness to compromise.” Earlier on Wednesday, talk radio host Rush Limbaugh declared that when politicians in Washington say “immigration reform” what they really mean is “amnesty.”
I say everywhere I go, ‘I am for immigration reform,’ Paul said, according to the Wall Street Journal.
This is not the first time Paul has embraced amnesty. As Breitbart News reported, Paul spoke at the University of Chicago earlier this year and told David Axelrod, the director of the school’s Institute for Politics, that he would “expand the work visa program to include” all of the country’s illegal immigrants. Hispanic groups were still not satisfied, calling Paul “offensive” even after he said he favored allowing all of the country’s illegal immigrants to remain in the country.
Paul participated in a monthly call with Bloomberg’s Partnership for a New American Economy and Norquist that seeks to push Congress to pass amnesty legislation this year. Paul diminished the role that amnesty had in Brat’s victory...”
Well it looks like there is some meat to this story, if Paul is joining the amnesty crowd he is dead to me. He’d better address this pronto.
