Cantor’s Loss and the Sensenbrenner Bill to Empower Eric Holder
PJ Media ^ | June 10, 2014 | J. Christian Adams

So Majority Leader Eric Cantor has lost to a Tea Party candidate. Correction, Majority Leader Eric Cantor was crushed by a Tea Party candidate. In some ways, Cantor’s exit is a political tragedy. It shows that flirting with the existential enemies of the Constitution, of liberty, and of core Republican principles can bear a very heavy price. I’m convinced that had Cantor resisted the siren calls of the left on two key issues — immigration and giving Eric Holder renewed power over state elections — he would have won tonight.

Why in the heck would a Republican of ANY sort sponsor a bill like the one mentioned in the article? I don't understand that at all. The letter addressed a bill sponsored by Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wi) that would reverse a Supreme Court decision and give Eric Holder renewed powers over state elections, including the power to block photo voter ID and citizenship verification procedures.

Something bad has happened to Sensenbrenner in the last few years. Is he senile or has he gone Democrat?? Same thing I guess.

You’re probably right. I just have rarely heard a Republican come out on the side of allowing ANYONE to say voter ID is wrong or to pass laws that give authorization allowing anyone to outlaw voter ID.

Maybe I’m wrong.

Unknown is the trade.

What did Sensenbrener get for sponsoring the bill?

I can’t think of anything that would justify the action

My guess is Obama's people hooked him up with a beautiful woman at a D.C. cocktail party and now are using it to blackmale him.

What is mind boggling here is the residual effects of Cantor's stunning loss----and the cataclysmic effects riveting ALL races---Democrat and Repubs. The political landscape has radically shifted for 2014 midterms...and beyond.

Hillary must be sweating bullets.

The swarming at the border is Democrats only hope. They are using Bill Clinton's election formula---letting in so many means so many Democrat votes. Joe Biden must have the Clinton formula in hand. He is quoted as saying "We need a constant, unrelenting stream coming across the border."

Vote-crazed Dems are scared stiff....relying on the diseased, unwashed hordes from the Third World to save their seats. The buzz is (after they are registered as Dems) DHS is bussing the hordes in groups of 500 to US cities-----probably in districts of vulnerable Dems. Ringers will be bussed in election day to vote the names of the newly registered Dems (too busy to vote---standing in line to board the US gravy train).

Cantor and Sensenbrenner voted personally to put Holder in Contempt of Congress almost 2 years ago this June 29. Their solution to the contemptible Holder, give him more power to steal elections from Republicans. Genius. Those bigoted ignorant Tea Partiers would never come up with an idea like that.

There are two basic problems with your belief.

First, letting illegals stay (which is what is encouraging them to come) is considerably different from making them citizens, which gives them the right to vote. THAT requires Congressional action, at least for the generation that comes in illegally.

Second, if the illegals register to vote (via motor voter) and then actually do so, to have any sort of substantive impact it will need to happen at a massive enough level where there is no way to hide and/or deny it. And states/localities very much have the ability to go after illegals that do, criminally.

The big problem, absent Congressional action to open the doors to citizenship (dead, dead, dead at the moment due to the Cantor loss), is the children of illegals who will be born here. But that’s an issue that has already created a situation where it’s exceedingly difficult, if not impossible, for a Republican to win the Presidency.
