Americans being evacuated from Iraqi air base as militants advance

Americans were being evacuated Thursday from a major Iraqi air base as Al Qaeda-aligned militants toppled cities in the country's north and threatened to advance toward Baghdad.

A senior U.S. official confirmed to Fox News that Americans were being evacuated from a base in Balad, which had been one of the largest training missions in Iraq.

The three planeloads of Americans are mostly contractors and civilians. The State Department said Thursday that the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad is operating as usual.

But the evacuation means that the vital training mission at Balad, about an hour northwest of Baghdad, has been suspended indefinitely -- despite repeated administration statements that it would continue to support Iraq's military.

Regarding those assurances, one U.S. official clarified to Fox News: "At the same time, we are not going to do anything stupid."

On the Larry King Live show last week, Vice President Joe Biden took credit for the success in Iraq, stating that the United States involvement in the war-torn country "could be one of the great achievements of [the Obama] administration."

I sure hope we're taking all of our new toys with us.

Unless of course, Barry wants to gift ISIS a brand new air force.

Which he may very well want to do, Barry being Barry.

This has to be wrong. We all can remember Herr Obozo telling us that al Qaeda was decimated and on the run.

However the grim reality is noted below:

Obama Foreign Policy Disaster: ‘On The Run’ Al Qaeda Now Controls More Territory Than Ever

As far as I can tell, Barack Obama has told us at least 32 times that al Qaeda was “on the path to defeat,” “decimated” or some other variation. And that’s just after the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi.

Of course, who can forget this Obama quote from 2012: “Al Qaeda has been decimated, Osama bin Laden is dead.”
Yeah, Mr. President, Osama bin Laden may be dead, but al Qaeda is very much alive. In fact it now controls more territory than at any time in its history.

From Aleppo in western Syria to Fallujah in central Iraq, al Qaeda now controls territory that stretches more than 400 miles across the heart of the Middle East, according to English and Arab language news accounts, as well as accounts on jihadist websites.

Indeed, al Qaeda appears to control more territory in the Arab world than ever. (Not bad for a “decimated” organization, huh?) In September of last year, a CNN reporting team concluded, “Al Qaeda has swept to power with the aim of imposing a strict Islamist ideology on Syrians across large swathes of Syria’s rebel-held north.”

In sum, al Qaeda affiliates now control much of northern and northwestern Syria, along with some parts of eastern Syria, as well as much of Anbar province, which is about a third of Iraqi territory.

“In b4 someone posts the photo of the last helicopter out of Saigon (probably will be me).”

I was a young man (just 20) and serving in the U.S. Navy on Guam when Saigon fell. This is looking an awful lot like it.

the F16’s will be inherited by Iran, and will likely end up in Russia and China for Force on Force training.

How far is an hour?

When one lives in a big country, often, one ends up referring to distance in hours of travel.

People in Texas do it all the time.

People in Delaware... not so much.

Depends on how crushed together you have become accustomed to living.

/johnny (in wide open Texas, an hour from Dallas)
