Skip to comments.Opinion: Bush, Cheney created the Iraq mess; why not make them try to fix it?
Posted on 06/12/2014 5:00:44 PM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer
Well, gee, $1 trillion or so just doesnt buy what it used to. Take Iraq, for example.
Or, should I say: Take Iraq, please, someone and fix it. Fend off the nasty Islamic fighters of ISIS and keep that miserable sinkhole for American lives and money from coming back to bite us again.
Do you understand now, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, John Bolton and all you neocon nutjobs, why the invasion of Iraq in 2003 wasnt a very good idea?
President Obama sure does. Because now hes neck deep in another crisis in this place, a country he thought he had gotten us out of, as he promised to do.
Now, I do have one somewhat off-the-wall option: Send Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney over there and let them try to negotiate a solution. And tell them they cant come home until theyre successful. After all, theyre the ones who created this mess in the first place.

Give Cheney command he will fix it.
Actually, it’s Mohammed’s fault.
Hey, Mitt Romney fixed the Winter Olympics, maybe he can do this, too?
MSM lackeys are already in Blame Bush mode. I guess we didn’t have a state department the last 6 years. /s
Actually, by the time all the life-long medical costs are done, current estimates run to $3 trillion.
Put the adults back in charge and they will.
another article by some braindead lefty moron that couldn’t find his own arse with both hands and a flashlight.
If there are any adults left in the Democrat Party, will you please take Obama to Summer camp so he can make ashtrays? Thank you.
Works for me!
Spoiled, pajama boy liberal moron.
Well .. how long did that take for “it’s all Bush’s fault” to surface ..??
No, Its not Bush’s fault, its Clintons fault because Bush inherited the problem from Clinton
For all their hysterics, they’re absolutely right on this one. Iraq has been an unmitigated disaster since the U.S. toppled the Ba’athist government of Saddam Hussein, and many of us predicted it right here on FreeRepublic way back in 2003.
Has the LA Times considered that perhaps Obama was sandbagged in Syria. Responding to ever more requests for arms, training and yes money that was stockpiled by the rebels for this ISIS/ISIL operation...???
Thats the $492 million dollar question it seems. They did knock down a berm for a truck convoy from Syria to Iraq.
In a sense, Obambi was right a few years ago, about Al Qaeda being on the run. They’re in the run from ISIS.
To their credit, Bush and Cheney did try to fix it. Almost completed it, but then had to do a handoff to an incompetent.
This is too easy for the MSM types. Oh goodie, we get to write another trash Bush article...
It’s World War I’s fault and breaking up the Ottoman Empire and creating Iraq because it looked pretty on a map that way.
Too bad we didn’t lock Saddam up in Gitmo.
I think if you did a confidential poll, 99% of the military would like to be rid of the Hero of Benghazi. Some command staff who owe their promotions to him might favor him. That’s it.
Pick any average businessman who pays taxes, hires and fires, and meets a payroll and he’d do a more competent job than the clown posse in DC.
Whitefield--Flaming liberal says Bush did it though 0bummer's been in office 5 1/2 years and still has no foreign policy.
Pauly will be able to write another screed when the same thing is repeated in Afghanistan because of 0bummer.
“Give Cheney command he will fix it.”
“Hey, Mitt Romney fixed the Winter Olympics, maybe he can do this, too?”
Whether you like Mitt or not, any sensible person can see that there is no way we would be in any of the many messes we are in today, if Mitt were president.
All those who stayed home and sulked and allowed Obama to get elected — TWICE — are reaping what they sowed, unfortunately all the rest of us are suffering too as a result of their lack of common sense.
Send Jimmy Carter.
Try stopping being an asshole!
It’s never the left’s fault.....even though Bush and Cheney predicted this before Obama was even elected.
The author of this *article*...
Editor/blogger @latimes presenting a slightly skewed view of the news
We just explain to the world we will no longer “intervene on behalf of freedom” unless we have the oil contracts in hand on the day we go in. I mean, the Left still squeels that Irag was a “war for oil” and we got screwed by the bastards. Money up front next time!
That’s pretty bad.
After only 6 years even the LIbs want Bush back!!!
Glad to see that you are back and trying so hard to relive the era of your only hit song.
No, we’d be in different messes.
Let’s see the oil leases.
I remember the video of a woman, on her knees, being shot in the soccer stadium of Kabul, then ruled by the Taliban. Stadium built with funds from the UN.
She had showed some ankle getting out of a Van.
And we have some members of congress saying the Taliban are not terrorists.
It’s an easily predictable liberal failure because Obama withdrew from Iraq in 2011 without a SOFA for political reasons, not conditions on the ground. His political team calculated he could not win in 2012 if any troops were still in Iraq. Just like his political team calculated he could not win if Behghazi was a terrorist attack. Or if people knew the truth about Obamacare. And on, and on,
And I was one of them. As despicable as Saddam Hussein was, he and his regime provided a good set of checks and balances between the Sunni/Shiite. Days of shifting the blame, is way overdue. And second guessing Bush's calls are over.
Well it is over 10 years later, and now you have a situation that is more the fault of Obama than Bush.
Obama is the one who :
(1) Decided to campaign on getting out of the country despite the circumstances.
(2) Has continued to capitulate and cower to the Muslims, even to the point of negotiating and surrendering Taliban generals for an enlisted soldier.
(3) Has had 6 years to formulate a contingency plan and other polices to prevent this getting to this point. How did this happen out of the blue? Intelligence ignored?
(4) Obama has shown his hand showing he does not want to engage Muslim extremist on many fronts. This has embolden the Taliban and other muslim terrorist organizations.
(5) Blaming your predecessor 6 years after your term starts is just a crutch for substandard leadership. Which is exactly what Obama has shown.
Agreeing with the LA Slimes on this matter is a stretch at best.
A shocking truth. It is time for Bush supporters to admit that he was worse for the country than Clinton.
Used your posted link but couldn’t find the story.......
Or perhaps the last six years didn’t happen. There was a time warp.
Obama let the leader of ISIS out of Camp Bucca in 2009.
Obama ended the occupation.
That’s when this began and was able to happen.
They have to be fought.
They will not stop.
I guess Paul forgot who has been president the past 5 years.
Meanwhile . . . a fellow named Paul Whitefield at the Los Angeles Times preaches his own wisdom:
Having grown up living in a trailer but having never, ever watched Duck Dynasty I feel uniquely qualified to say this: Enough with the trailer-trash TV shows.
@PaulWhitefield1 I didn’t read your piece in the L.A. Times about Duck Dynasty, but I know it was garbage. Enough elitism in our newspapers!

The LA Times is subscription based. Do a google news search for “Bush Cheney” and the article is readable without subscribing. That’s how I found it.
Paul Whitefield weighs in on gun control after the Georgia shooting: “Whats being done about it? A whole lot less than whats been done to protect us from a few tainted capsules of Tylenol.”
