Most hilariously tone-deaf political ad of the year: Thad Cochran’s appeal to lobbying and pork

Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran is from a different time. A time when politicians kept quiet and squirreled away money for their home districts or states and built up insurmountable support that way, staying in office forever. A time when you would trade votes for special pet projects. A more corrupt and blissfully less dramatic time. Ahhhhh.

And this latest ad from Cochran’s campaign, ahead of the incumbent’s June 24 runoff against Tea Party challenger Chris McDaniel, also seems to be from a different time — a time when such a direct appeal was commonplace and would surely work. It is the Most Establishment Ad Ever.

In the 30-second spot, former awful Senate majority leader from Mississippi and current awful Washington D.C. lobbyist Trent Lott basically tells voters that if they don’t reelect Cochran, all the pork that Cochran has worked so hard to protect, specifically for the Gulf Coast, is in danger, and so is national security, etc.

Despite the glowing, optimistic visage of Trent Lott, the spot is really a subtle attack ad on McDaniel, who has pooh-poohed the Hurricane Katrina relief package that sent billions of dollars to repair the Gulf Coast — and, generally, “wasteful” government spending. The thing is, a lot of “wasteful” government spending is the sort of spending that keeps Mississippi afloat. As EJ Dionne explored in a recent Washington Post column:

Only a handful of companies, employees’s and lobbyist like Haley Barbour
and Trent Lott benefit from the pork Cochran brings home.

The rest of Mississippi citizens just get by.

So....good ole appeasing Trent out there hawking his wares. Talkin bout pork, talkin bout his good buddy Thad. C’mon, git some o’dat pork!

He might as well be William Devane, Henry Winkler, or that SOB Fred Thompson out there hawking “Buy GOLD! [at a high], or get a “government insured reverse mortgage” like they’re trying to tell you they did. Bastards all.

The ONLY one of these old fogey’s I ever had any respect for was Bob Dole.....as milquetoast as he was, he at least resigned from the Senate to run for President (unlike McCrazy, or Fred who just up and quit before the fight was even joined) and he had the cojones to go out there and tell it like it is with his ED in those commercials.

“Gov. Barbour’s ‘Disadvantaged’ Relative Masterminded $100 Million Of Post-Katrina FEMA Fraud”

http://mississippiconservativedaily.com/2014/03/30/plunkett-cochran-enables-barbour-to-skim-federal-money-for-family-and-clients/

“Cochran fought hard to be sure no-bid contracts were part of the Katrina relief package and that Barbour held the reins of the spending, so Barbour and his cronies could make out like bandits.

It was Cochran’s long-time engineering cronies who received the large fees associated with readjusting population numbers for water and sewer projects. It was Barbour’s niece who bilked the federal government out of money for portable toilets and portable showers, that in turn brought an FBI investigation and fraud convictions. And it was Henry Barbour, despite having no experience in disaster relief, that was named as head of then Gov. Barbour’s Commission on Recovery, Rebuilding and Renewal.”

Yeah, we need to know more about old Thad's pet projects that he claimed to have had indecent interaction.

If what he does to his pet projects is anything like what he recently confessed doing to his pets, gross!
