A little late. I really hope this isn’t a token protest to say “we tried”. They better really be whipping votes for him

Kinda late for that, McCarthy has already whipped the vote and has all the support he needs to win.

ping!

Go, Labrador! So far it looks like Kevin McCarthy has been the only contender, hand-picked by Boehner and Cantor, and even more liberal than they.

McCarthy has to run for Majority Leader again in January when the new Congress is sworn in. Instead of running and getting his butt kicked next week, thus demonstrating he’s a loser, maybe Labrador should be getting his ducks in a row and making a case to be Majority Leader ahead of the January vote?

Never heard of him. A quick glance at the "on the issues" website shows he is too close to the moderate square in the middle of the graph.

The vote is private, and because of that, I’d say there is room for an upset. A lot on the Hill are annoyed that the leadership they see as failures are becoming a coronation club

More info:

Idaho Rep. Raul Labrador will run for House majority leader next week, giving the hard right corner of the conference their candidate.

Labrador, who was elected in 2010, is a late entrant into a race that’s four days old - and the election is less than a week away. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has locked up a huge well of support that will be hard to break. A source close to the McCarthy campaign said not one of their commitments was contingent on Labrador not getting into the race.

More important than the outcome itself, Labrador’s candidacy will be a test of how conservatives perform in a leadership race. A loss would show the difficulty in knocking off a well organized candidate with a sophisticated organization.
Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.) is another conservative vying for a leadership slot. He’s running for whip against Reps. Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Peter Roskam of Illinois.

A small group of conservatives - not more than a dozen or two - have been pining for one of their own in leadership. They aren’t enough to change the outcome of a race. Scalise is the chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee but is now considered by some as insufficiently conservative.

I think it is token, for now.

The real knock down brawl is coming with the new session.
About 15 Bonehead/McCarthy allies will be retiring.
New reinforcements like Brat are coming in.

Who knows, more “Cantor Surprises” could be coming down
the pike in the remaining primaries. Plus McConnell may lose
the general. That will only strengthen our demand for leadership power.

A knock down brawl is coming. It is coming.

He was one of the original House Gang of Eight. He has quit that and says he has changed his position.

He needs to be watched.
