Chris Christie Rebuts Perry Comparison of Homosexuality To Alcoholism

MARK Z. BARABAK, CHRIS MEGERIAN

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie takes questions at San Francisco flower shop GOP's Chris Christie pays a visit Facebook headquarters in California New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who signed legislation barring "gay conversion therapy" in his state, said Friday that Texas Gov. Rick Perry's comparison of homosexuality to alcoholism was wrong.

"I disagree with him, and I don't believe that's an apt analogy," Christie said during a San Francisco appearance alongside Neel Kashkari, the GOP candidate for California governor.

Christie was appearing with Kashkari in his role as head of the Republican Governors Assn., but he declined to speak for the organization and its members. "Every governor and public official has to speak for themselves on these issues," he told reporters. "I just spoke for myself."

I disagree with him, and I don't believe that's an apt analogy. - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, discussing Texas Gov. Rick Perry's comparison of homosexuality to alcoholism At a question-and-answer session Wednesday night in San Francisco, Perry reiterated his belief that homosexuality was a lifestyle choice.

"Whether or not you feel compelled to follow a particular lifestyle or not, you have the ability to decide not to do that," Perry said. "I may have the genetic coding that I'm inclined to be an alcoholic, but I have the desire not to do that."

Perry previously made that analogy in a 2008 book, and his views were discussed during his 2012 presidential campaign. But his comments Wednesday night before the Commonwealth Club of California, a nonpartisan speakers forum, sparked new interest in light of the Texas GOP's recent adoption of platform language endorsing "reparative therapy," which holds that counseling can change the sexual orientation of adults

Does Christie have personal knowledge? I always wondered about him and Springsteen.

“I don’t believe that’s an apt analogy,” Christie said.

That’s only because there isn’t national alliance of alcoholic voters.

OMG, Christie, with everything that’s going on you have to insert yourself into a gay discussion.

That stupid ass move alone should eliminate him in anyone’s eyes from being President. 1, because it’s so damn ignorant and 2, because it’s an establishment stunt.

No more establishment, Christie!

He should have refuted Perry's statement that Hillary Clinton was a “Very, very capable public servant, great secretary of State, first lady,”

Yes, Perry said that too.

Looking at some of the present office holders, one could dispute your ‘claim’.

Of course, like they say, the difference between a drunk and alcoholic is the drunk doesn’t have to to to the meetings.(or something like that).

I wonder if Christie thinks of his passion for food as genetic or a choice, and regardless of which, is it something that a person can choose to give into or not?

"I disagree with him, and I don't believe that's an apt analogy," Christie said

"No," Christie added, "It's more like eating an upside down chocolate donut -- and everyone knows I know all about chocolate donuts."

LA Slime, please go away. Nothing you print or post should be taken seriously. This is the leftist creed: never let the truth get in the way of your agenda. I should trademark this as you will never hear it from anyone else.

Was the rebuttal in the story? I must have missed it. Christie disagreed, but he failed to rebut. Insert “butt” joke, then insert “insert” joke.

the analogy is good and not offensive to anyone IMO. Some people are certainly more genetically predisposed then others and there’s no doubt in my mind that certain environmental factors can influence the expression of genes. The genetically predisposed alcoholic, for example, does not become an alcoholic until he has been exposed to alcohol.

But if a person wants to enter this type of treatment/ trial process, shouldn’t they have the Right to do so, Mr. Christie?! You guys have encouraged and added in funding for free clinics to women for abortions -many of those which are at the taxpayers expense. He’s such a typical insider/ saying anything or implementing policies to win over more liberal republicans and democrats. If a gay person wants treatment, don’t deny them or fall back to an excuse by saying they should not be forced to do it. Duh!

Perry reiterated his belief that homosexuality was a lifestyle choice.

Homosexuality is a lifestyle choice kind of like pedophilia and child abuse is a lifestyle choice, i.e. a disorder.
