Turkey dries up the Euphrates river

The crisis revolves around the Euphrates River, which quickly became the Euphrates Creek when Turkey completely cut off the water flow upstream of Syria, reported Al Akhbar on May 30. The Euphrates originates in Turkey and passes through the Atatürk Dam before flowing into Syria and Iraq. By cutting off the flow and directing it into the reservoir, Turkey has lowered water levels downstream

When Turkey built the dam there was concern downstream they’d do this and Turkey (a different government) swore it would never happen. Look for an attack on the dam next.

Nope.Rev. 16:12 is in the tribulation. We have a way to go yet. Besides, this is Turkey, not God drying up the river.

The problem with blowing up a dam because you need the water is that you most likely live downstream and will get flooded

Events similar to this but not as severe was happening with Israel and Syria in the Golan heights in ‘66 and ‘67 before the war.

As King Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes, “There is nothing new under the sun.”

In 539 B.C., Cyrus the Great of Persia diverted the Euphrates, allowing his army to crawl under the city walls and conquer Babylon.

Oh I know that. I just thought it was an interesting coincidence that the Euphrates is quite capable of being dried up.

Lots of folks think that Revelation is just allegory, and that those things could NEVER really happen.

I went to school with Arabs and worked with several later. One day I suddenly realized that although they weren’t “stupid” that they saw an entirely different reality. It was impossible to predict what they’d do given a particular input. A Lebanese who sounded like a Tea Partier when we were alone echoed the insane ramblings of the Iranian protesters when they were around. I asked why and he said, “You don’t understand. They won’t kill you for disagreeing because they know that would get them in trouble. But if I disagree it’s like asking them to kill me.” Years later there were six of us and one Palestinian in a conversation regarding Salmon Rushdie. The Palestinian casually, between bites of pizza said, “Well, if he defamed (misquoted) Allah, then he must die.” From observation I deduced that their culture does not connect cause and effect. So, will they worry about floods if some higher paradigm is operable in their logic? Who knows. But I’d put money on retaliation.

Actually, it's a pretty good way for Al Qaeda to take Baghdad.

Pull your forces to high ground, blow the dam and watch Baghdad empty out fast.

Of course, there will be some water damage but that's what Stanley Steemer is for.

Interesting. I actually read elsewhere that this ISIL group now controls most if not all of the major waterways into Iraq. Turkey’s position in this is very ambiguous. Did they cut off the water to prevent ISIL from getting it?

Our intelligence services failed, but those in the ME were more aware.

Water is as important as oil - if not more important- if you live in a desert.

The Palestinian casually, between bites of pizza said, “Well, if he defamed (misquoted) Allah, then he must die.” From observation I deduced that their culture does not connect cause and effect.

When every result of cause and effect is the will of allah...There is no need to have a logical reason...or critical thinking skills...

I had a conversation with a palestinian co-worker about the Israeli - Palestinian conflict...

He insisted that one day the Jews will soon be forced from the land and walk away

His logic was it was allah's will...even though anybody with any reasoning ability would think that was highly unlikely...as the Jews will fight to the last man to keep their land...
