They call themselves the Army of God (Jund Allah) and claim to be fighting to unite mankind under the banner of Islam as “the only true faith.” To achieve that goal, they believe they should revive the Islamic Caliphate, the theocratic empire developed after the death of Prophet Mohammed in 632 AD.
Adepts of the caliphate movement are present throughout the world, including the United States, under different labels. In many places, from the Philippines to Nigeria, passing by Thailand, India, Afghanistan and Syria, they have taken up arms to capture a chunk of territory as the embryo of their dream empire.

Things are NOT actually “out of control.” The Bible states a well-established doctrine (regarding the character and power of God) in that ALL THINGS are under his control - whether ‘permitted’ or by his ‘active will’ - so that NOTHING is outside the control of God.
The real question here is, as we look at this Muslims “going wild” with their god “Allah” ... is ... “Whose God is really in comtrol, the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob - or - the God of Ishmael and Mohammed?”
The answer to that question, comes out in the end as to whether ... ALL MUSLIMS are killed - or - ALL JEWS are killed.
Christians believe it’s the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who is the true God, and thus it’s ALL MUSLIMS who will be killed, as a result.
One should note ... in a follow-up to previous comment ... that Jesus, as the Messiah of Israel, will return and totally KILL ALL MUSLIMS and DEPOPULATE all Muslims from the Middle East. That’s Jesus’ solution to this problem.

The points you left out in your prescient response are:
(A) The Saudis have deep hooks into the political class of both parties. George W Bush's democracy experiment in Iraq was at least in part influenced by the Saudis fear of a Shia led veiled dictatorship. Individuals who had direct influence on the POTUS included Jim Baker and other Houston influence peddlers and fixers who the Saudis had helped make very wealthy men.
(B) The Mahdi and Brennan are philo-Sunni Muslims who along with their Saudi friends thought disrupting Alawi ruled Syria and encouraging a ‘Sunni revival’ in Iraq would work well as part of the ‘Arab Spring’ to contain Iran and insulate the Saudis who are the official ‘Guardians of the Holy Cities of Islam’. The ISIS may be blowback or it may be a covertly controlled Saudi (or some faction of the Saudi establishment such as the Bin Turki clan) only time will tell.
What is clear is the US faces the possibility of either having to launch a huge NEO operation that would be as big as a large military operation or having hundreds of US nationals murdered and hundreds more held hostage.
