Iran Deploys Forces to Fight al Qaeda-Inspired Militants in Iraq

The threat of Sunni extremists eclipsing the power of its Shiite-dominated Arab ally presents Iran with the biggest security and strategic challenge it has faced since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

With the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, an offshoot of al Qaeda, rapidly gaining territory, Iran deployed Revolutionary Guards units to Iraq, according to Iranian security officials.

Iran has invested considerable financial, political and military resources over the past decade to ensure Iraq emerged from U.S. war as a strategic partner for the Islamic Republic and a strong Shiite-led state. The so-called Shiite crescent—stretching from Iran to Iraq, Lebanon and Syria—was forged largely as a result of this effort. […]

The involvement of Iran would pose yet another security challenge for the White House, and raises the prospect of the U.S. and Iran fighting on the same side. The U.S. opposes Iran’s support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, but with Tehran is jointly supporting Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. …

"That was far different from all these different Muzzie sects who hate each other and us even more."

Therein lies the problem I keep trying to tell folks. It's not a matter of nationalism or imperialism or even colonialism. They just don't have the same mind set. They are about their god and anyone who doesn't believe in THEIR god is an enemy. They are also violently opposed to different interpretations of their god, think Sunni versus Shiites.

They will never be at peace with the West, where some believe in a god (not their's) and others don't. I believe that to be every human's right.

Sooo, KILL ALL who refuse to let people live in peace no matter their beliefs. I mean this. Kill them in a large and purposeful manner that will send that back into their goat-humping days. Oh wait, they still do that. Sorry goats, under my rule you would have many in line. Got KY?

RE:”Equating Iraqis with the French and Belgians is the flaw here; the Iraqis were not subjugated by anyone. And we didn’t have the rules of engagement that our present-day military is saddled witht”

As is equating the GWB US Iraq invasion with WWII allied liberation of Europe.

I hear an Iraq expert explaain that the terrorists had carefully avoided the Kurdish areas of Mosul. Also that Malaki has been quite vicious to his enemies and Sunnis. Today the chief Shiite cleric in Iraq (Sistani?) urged young men to fight these takeovers. They also captured the Turkish consulate in Mosul and may still be holding the Ambassador’s family. How mad will the Turks get???

Bush Sr. had the good sense and patience to build successful coalitions for Gulf War I. Cheney, who was involved in that failed to understand the lesson, or was in too much hurry to give Halliburton those big contracts.

Muslims are having their “Protestant Reformation”, that killed so many in stupid European religious wars. Thank “God” our founding fathers had the good sense to separate church and state.

I don’t know the Turkey Government nor their assets in the region. If they need the Kurds to unite resources between Iraq and Turkey then it would seem they have a green light.

My personal suspicion? The various Middle Eastern rigimes realize the oil is running low, and need an excuse to kill off their male underclass. War is the classical solution.

Not all that confusing if you look at the historical record. Sunni versus Shiite easy enough
However the country boundaries were drawn by the British and French during and after WWI as the Ottoman Empire fell apart. There was no consideration of ethnic or religious factors. What we are seeing is a reversion to tribal societies as before WWI. Let it happen and stay out of it I say

I thought GHWB his daddy had a much better approach on this than GWB on this: Bombs for oil rather than US Americans blood for muzzies who hate us.

There is is no f.ing way that these poor muzzie crapholes equate to Germany and Germans.

Hear hear!

Outside of a sheer hatred of all that is Jewish, no. Although Himmler expressed that Islam was a good religious belief system for the Nazis.

The Germans, for the complete barbarity they did show, were considered to be one of (if not the) most cultured countries in Europe. You can’t say that about ANY Islanic sh*thole.

The 49 countries that joined the coalition with GWB didn't count for anything?
