INDIANAPOLIS — Standing in a small booth surrounded by displays for rifles, pistols, holsters and other firearm accouterments, the Rev. Kenn Blanchard signed copies of his book “Black Man With a Gun: Reloaded.” Amid the sea of thousands of white faces that descended on this city for the National Rifle Association convention in late April, Mr. Blanchard, an N.R.A. member since 1991, offered his reasoning for why he was one of the few black visitors.
“We still culturally have a fear that we’re going to be that lone guy out, and you don’t want to be the lone guy out,” he said, estimating that one in 100 people at the convention was black. “The exposed nail gets hammered.”

At a time when gun issues are volatile nationally and sales are increasing, minority gun owners — whether black, Asian or Latino — may feel that their weighing of the practical pros and cons of gun ownership comes up against the conservatism and unyielding stances of the N.R.A. and some other gun advocates. Mr. Blanchard said it could be a difficult balancing act.

Chuck Gueno Jr., 57, an African-American retired Marine at the convention who likes to shoot competitively, said the N.R.A. had “a stigma of being the good old boys, and people of color might be a little intimidated.” snip
“The reality is self-defense, and the firearm played a key role in the freeing of the slaves,” Sheriff Clarke said. “So what I’ve seen as my role is just to re-engage the black community with their history and let them figure it out for themselves. My cynical self says: The NYT thinks a race war is coming and worries that their side is not well-armed.
Armed citizens (primarily black) with guns and a black police chief supporting it is what is driving the Detroit crime rate down so fast.
After you shoot enough of them, the thugs find a safer way to get by.
I won’t even read it. NY Slimes has zero creds. Their motivations are always suspect.
I work with a lot of black gun owners. Funny, none of them have shot me yet.

My cynical self says you are right. I have come to the conclusion that the gun grabber movement had an element of "dis-arm whitey" in its lunatic ranks.

Middle-class blacks, perhaps. Underclass thugs have a high possession rate, it seems.
I think it's more accurate to say that blacks are less likely to admit to gun ownership to random pollsters.
That is also what this article said. We know that the NRA would not have the financial clout it has without a well heeled membership. Some of those members have firearms that are pieces of art and they run in six figures. I’ll bet that a very large number of liberals have them in their safes. That old “good ole boy” dog won’t hunt. That is not to say that good ole boys don’t hunt and God bless em, they do have guns.
It is negative, just in a way that is via a different direction than we normally see from the MSM.
Why is everything about race with the media? It boggles my mind. I look at Kenn Blanchard and think, wow another person who gets the truth, and he happens to be black. They look at Kenn Blanchard and are puzzled why a black man thinks this way.
But recall how the media treats people who are black. And it starts with the word itself.
When Nobel Prize winning poet Tony Morrison can write an October 1988 New Yorker article titled “Clinton as the first black president”, then what is “black”? When the NAACP calls the black conservative Kenneth Gladney, “not black enough”, and “not a brother” then what is “black”? When Time magazine’s Jack White calls Supreme Court Justice Thomas, “the scariest of all the hobgoblins”, saying “Washington seems to be filled with white men who make black people uneasy”, than what is “black”?
And when Obama, a man whose mother is Caucasian, and whose father was one eighth African Negro but majority Arab, can tell us in his autobiography that in his youth he struggled with his racial identity before *deciding* to be black, what is “black”?
As these expressions of “black” pile up in the mind of the public, more and more will wake up to this truth: liberals demand that people who are not white must be red. Someone who is really black is a traitor or a freak when they are not red.

So why can’t Chicago see Dtroit’s results and maybe take it as a lesson?
One issue is the fact that Michigan gun laws are pretty much universal across the state and override local laws and ordinances. There isn’t a city or town in Michigan where open and concealed carry are illegal.
I don’t know Illinois law but it looks like Chicago has a fair amount of autonomy on the issue.
So true. YEARS ago, when the Black Panthers started up and before they became politicized, I read about a cool thing they did that points up that statement.
There was a small town in the South where some white trash in their own "hoodies" would go around black neighborhoods, setting up a cross on their lawn and setting it afire. When the local law wouldn't do anything, some guys calling themselves Black Panthers armed up, piled in a car, and started following any carload of whites who entered their neighborhood at night. One BP reported that the white guys kept nervously looking over their shoulders and after cruising around, left the area.
Once in a while some of this white trash was able to slip through and set up a burning cross, only they had to use a wooden "X" support (similar to a Christmas tree), dash out of the car, plop it on the lawn, set it alight and haul out of there. Reduced to using a Christmas tree support and then running away? Frigging hilarious! As more and more of the neighborhood started to feel empowered and began patrolling their areas, even that pathetic attempt stopped.
In a separate instance, a black friend told me that when a local Klan held an outdoor rally at some park, he and a bunch of his friends held a big barbecue nearby and made no secret that they were armed. The rally didn't last long.

maybe law abiding american blacks are less likely to own firearms, BUGs (Black Urban Gangsta) are a different matter.
