Outgoing Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor told ABC's Jonathan Karl that he was "absolutely" shocked by his primary loss this week to Tea Party challenger David Brat, a defeat that has sent shockwaves through Washington as the man seen as a possible heir to Speaker John Boehner was dethroned.
"Absolutely I don't think anybody in the country thought that the outcome would be what it was. And, you know, I just am a believer, as I said that night, and subsequently, that there are some things that happen for a reason and we may not be able to really discern it now and given the perspective of time, I think we're going to be able to look back at this, and what seemed really bad at the time may turn out to be really good," Cantor said on "This Week."
The 51-year-old Virginia Republican was defeated Tuesday in his 7th District Republican primary by Brat, a tea-party backed college professor at Randolph-Macon College

Liars. It’s positively pathological. They lie as naturally as they breathe.
If he didn’t walk all over the people who put him there but stopped to listen to them rather than talk all over them, he would still have that job.
He lost for one reason: He ignored the people who put him in that office because he was too busy being important.
During the interview with ABC News, Cantor told Karl he believed his defeat could not be attributed to his stance on immigration reform
The D's and R's agreed that was his appointed lordship.
How dare the serfs steal from royalty!
Lo siento, Eric. No hablo.
Wait till Brat signs off on some immigration issues.....if he wins at all. I’ll bet the sink....
Yep, Eric...you can say that again - and again.....in fact, we don't even have to wait to see it. It IS really good now, in fact. The fact that you're outta here.
They’ll steal it like they stole it from Cucinnelli. They just didn’t have the dead voters resurrected this time because they were so sure of themselves.
He’ll make a WONDERFUL lawyer. So much potential there to represent big-name clients.
Just keep his ass out of power, FOREVER.
I can sympathize with his shock.
After all, the “fix” was in; the poles were rigged; promises were made; and some were paid and favors made.
What went wrong?
Well, it was quite apparent that the voters had all that they could take from RINO-E representatives (the word: representatives is an oxymoron when it comes to the Republican establishment) and wanted someone to actually represent what free society we have left.
I’ll bet that “crony capitalists” are crying in their mansions right now.
