Skip to comments.LAT's Paul Whitefield: Make Bush and Cheney Try to Fix Iraq Mess They Created
Posted on 06/16/2014 2:07:45 AM PDT by PoloSec
Paul Whitefield "is a 30-year veteran of the Los Angeles Times who is copy chief of the editorial pages and a writer/scold for the Opinion L.A. blog." He also has a serious but far from unique case of Bush (and Cheney) Derangement Syndrome and an extraordinary ignorance of the history of last decade's war in Iraq, which included a victory in 2008 the U.S. press, with rare exceptions, refused to recognize.
Clueless Paul, in a Thursday post, claimed that what has happened recently in Iraq proves (italics are his) that "the invasion ... in 2003 wasnt a very good idea" Admitting that "I dont know how these things keep sneaking up on us" (I can help you with that, Paul), he petulantly wrote: "Send Mr. (George W.) Bush and Mr. (Dick) Cheney over there and let them try to negotiate a solution," because "theyre the ones who created this mess in the first place." Well no, Paul. Excerpts from Whitefield's work, followed by a pointed riposte from a National Review op-ed, follow the jump (bolds are mine throughout this post):
Bush, Cheney created the Iraq mess; why not make them try to fix it?
Well, gee, $1 trillion or so just doesnt buy what it used to. Take Iraq, for example.
Or, should I say: Take Iraq, please, someone and fix it. Fend off the nasty Islamic fighters of ISIS (shall we call Wonder Woman, perhaps?) and keep that miserable sinkhole for American lives and money from coming back to bite us again.

Sounds good to me
Put President Bush and VP Cheney back in charge of the US, and regarding Iraq, throw in Rumsfeld and Petraeus, too - this time give them a Congress that will give them what they need to do the job.
and make John Bolton the Secretary of State
That’s what they said they wanted. Give it to them indeed.
I wrote it years ago....The underlying reason for going to Iraq was to keep alqueda from setting up a base there. To think Saddam wouldn’t deal is absurd. The chemist and the delivery man as a Team could destroy the US.
Me too. If obamster would just step aside and let president Bush take over. The current leadership is still stuck in Vietnam, which this is beginning to look like, thanks to them.
The man is an idiot. If you have nothing to say about Obama that can bolster the case he has done anything substantively better for Iraq, then by all means blame Bush and Cheney and assert some ridiculous point that makes no sense. Typical liberal idiot.
Yeah let the experienced adults fix this cause Obama is too busy golfing & hanging with the wealthy limosine lefties.
So following this logic, the democrat party was fully responsible for the soviet domination of the East Bloc. Odd that it too a republican named Reagan to resolve that little issue.
Well even stupid people can have an opinion.
And make retired Lt Gen Tom McInerney SecDef.
Another liberal still blaming Bush....SHUT THE F UP, LIBERALS!!!!!
I thought the underlying reason was to remove weapons of mass destruction. You don’t need to defend this RHINO President as he won’t defend himself or his policies. In fact, his family and their political underlings are actively trying to destroy the Tea Party. Thus family needs to be kept out of US politics at any price because of the damage they have done.
Bush & Chaney...Okay!
as long as B & C get to set Rules of engagement the USA will always win!
Thought this President was so smart he would fix everything Bush did wrong. Seems like he made everything a lot worse.
did they say this when gwb took over for the messes clinton made?
Although I was never for the Iraq invasion I now see that it at least postponed having heartless, tyrannical, terrorists take over the country.
So put Bush et al back in, maybe we can postpone that fate again. Obama is instead thrilled that radicals are moving ahead with plan.
