The USS Mesa Verde with 550 Marines on board entered the Gulf on Monday to support possible U.S. action to help Iraq's Shi'ite-led government combat a Sunni Islamist insurgency that has overtaken large areas of the country's north, CNN reported. The USS Mesa Verde joins the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush, which the Pentagon ordered on Saturday to move into the Gulf. President Barack Obama has said he is considering military action, short of putting U.S. troops in Iraq, to aid that government's efforts to stop the insurgency.

Obama relied on his National Security team, therefore, there was no heads up on this crisis, he was on hole #8 when he heard it on the radio.

No ground troops was the call, so extraction of Americans from Baghdad looks to be on the agenda today. Better make it fast.

I can see the Marines pushing the helicopters overboard once again to make room for the Vietnamese, oops, I mean Iraqi friends of America. Imagine how Benjamin Netanyahui feels right now watching his key ally go down the tubes due to inaction...

yep.

San Antonio Class amphibious transport dock.

Aircraft: Four CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters or two MV-22 Osprey tilt rotor aircraft may be launched or recovered simultaneously. The ship’s hangar can store 1-2 aircraft.

You can bet that it will be handled with all the ‘expertise’ and ‘finesse’ the “O” WH is capable of.

Oi veh!

Yet ANOTHER abysmal American failure and embarrassment for all the world to see and which will be howling down at US Presidents and diplomats for decades to come.

Here's a question..we spent billions on the Embassy in Bagdad. Do we just abandon it, let ISIS use it as their seat of power, or blow it up?

Blow it up once we’re out, for god’s know what secrets they have in there.

I say we abandon it, but I don't think Iran will tolerate a permanent ISIS presence in Baghdad.

Not when the Iranians will be occupying it instead.....after the years Iran and Iraq spent fighting and getting nowhere and the iranians are going to waltz in there with open arms.

"Looks like a full scale evac is on the cards"

Are we going to see something similar to the fall of Saigon? As they say, that would be some REALLY bad... "optics".

If that happens, and the republicans had a functioning brain stem(I know...), they would make 0bama OWN this collapse.

Yes, the Shiites in Iraq will welcome the Iranians as their deliverers. Baghdad is about half Shiite, or so I read. This is the opportunity of a lifetime for the mullahs in Tehran.

And any aircraft tossed over the side will not be replaced, have to budget for EBT, illegals, more welfare, etc.

Maybe the same could have been said of Benghazi? We would not have needed to fly anything over their airspace except for a Tomahawk or two.

This ship is attached to the Bataan Battle group and the Bataan will be the destination of any people rescued.

Obama’s National Security Team are doing their job well. The entire team has their heads in the sand and their rear ends, way up in the air, waiting for a horny camel. Sorry folks, I couldn't resist but it's true.
People may have hated Bush, but they respected him. People hate Obama and do not respect him hence America's enemies are trampling the President, daily.

Obama and Iran are going to make a deal.

Obama doesn't remember the hostage crisis. He wasn't old enough to read.
