Islamic State of Iraq and al-Shams (ISIS) leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi in custody at a detention facility in Iraq, but president Barack Obama let him go, it was revealed on Friday.
Al Baghdadi was among the prisoners released in 2009 from the U.S.'s now-closed Camp Bucca near Umm Qasr in Iraq.
But now five years later he is leading the army of ruthless extremists bearing down on Baghdad who want to turn the country into an Islamist state by blazing a bloody trail through towns and cities, executing Iraqi soldiers, beheading police officers and gunning down innocent civilians.
It is unclear why the U.S. let the merciless al Qaeda leader slip away, however, one theory proposed by The Telegraph is that al Baghadadi was granted amnesty along with thousands of other detainees because the U.S. was preparing to pull out of Iraq.
The United States began withdrawing troops from Iraq in 2010,and Camp Bucca closed in 2011 along with the United States' other military facilities as President Obama declared that the War in Iraq had come to an end.

Revealed: How Obama SET FREE the merciless terrorist warlord now leading the ISIS horde blazing a trail of destruction through Iraq
As usual, the US Media is avoiding this teensy fact: The Obama administration created this monstrosity by letting this terrorist go free.
Amnesty is 0bama’s solution.
See how well it works?
Ah, their dang embedded link screwed up the date. Didn’t expect that. Needs just a little trimming, please. Thank you.
You know it would really be ironic if all these terrorists he set free blew him into a million pieces while sleeping in a bunker at the WH one of these nights. I don’t know if he’s incredibly stupid by thinking his Islamic buddies will let him live after his usefulness or just that arrogant.
Obama needed chaos to help try to bury his other scandals, which are legion (that’s not a coincidence).
He spawns chaos wherever he can. Some bear the wicked fruit, some fail.
This Iraq thing is squarely on his shoulders. Nearly 2,000 Iraqi servicemen have already been executed.
I’m wondering just how stupid 1/2 of America has to be?
They listen to the lies of liberals in media and never search for the truth.
We may have Americans killed in this thing. They will be cynically-used to push the legion of scandals off the front page.
Front Page news?
Since things are about to go from horribly bad to worse, it appears.
The correct name is ISIL.shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach Levant
Levant ===>> Eastern Mediterranean counties
from Turkey to Egypt. This includes Israel
Iraq (Babylon) and the Levant.
It is the re-creation of the Ancient Assyrian Empire.
The Assyrian Empire is the same as the
Eastern half of the Roman Empire.
These were the first terrorists,
three to five millennia ago.
The Anti-Christ is "the Assyrian"
( Isaiah, Micah, Ezekiel ) .
We'll see if that works out worse. My bet is it will, for us.
Back in that time frame, 2009-2011, was the time frame that the US was also covertly supporting all Syrian Rebel groups, of which the Al Qeada offspring that would later become ISIS was a part. So it is logical to assume that he was released to help Al Qaeda in the campaign to take down Assad. Not only that, but the leader of the ISIS horde calls himself the heir to Osama Bin Laden. Spooky stuff here people. We must also assume that the recently released Taliban Generals were released to conduct a covert war against the Afghan government.
Setting the Middle East on fire.
And Iran coming into play.....
What difference, at this point, does it make? 2016, that’s what. Thanks F15Eagle.
At the end of the day neither Bush nor Obama ‘released’ al-Baghdadi. The Shia run Iraqi government did. For what reason don’t know. Could have been sloppy paperwork, misidentification when transferred or some inside Sunni minority government type snookered the PM.
So to be accurate, the party to ‘blame’ for letting this guy go is the Iraqi Dawa party in power then and now.
Under the US-Iraqi security agreement (transition plan) all the detainees had to be turned over to Iraqi control by the end of 2009. If I remember correctly it happened faster than the deadline. I was serving in Iraq at that time in Baghdad and was part of a team which reviewed Iraqi requests to release detainees from US control. By September 2009 that function turned into an advisory role to the Iraqis. We no longer had a say other than “do you really think that is a good idea.”?
Did he close Camp Bucca to turn over to the Iraqis on the pull-out?
Bucca was closed before US Forces departed Iraq. The prisioner transfers completed (but for a few) by the end of 2009. The transfer of detainees was part of the transition plan which was approved in the Bush Administration. So either with an Obama or McCain in the WH, it was going to happen. Again I am quite surprised given this guy’s resume, he was released by the Shia majority government. In Baghdad, as part of a screening group, I saw the Shia government balk at releasing low level Sunni ‘foot soldiers.’ So there is more to the story. Stay tuned.
