Idaho’s GOP convention adjourns without electing chairman, setting platform

Idaho’s state Republican Party convention degenerated into a fiasco Saturday after attempts to disqualify up to a third of the delegates attending appeared to be succeeding – and the convention adjourned without electing a chairman, setting a platform or doing any of its scheduled business.

“For three weeks I’ve tried to broker a deal to prevent what happened today,” 1st District Idaho Congressman Raul Labrador told Idaho Public Television just after the convention adjourned. Labrador was the convention chairman and wants to be the next Majority Leader of the U.S. House.

Shades of things to come in the showdown between the GOPe and the TEA Party.

The DemocRATS have been effectively marginalized to the point that they don't even bother running candidates for local office in large swaths of Idaho.

So the favorite canard of the GOPe "vote for us or you'll get somebody much worse" doesn't pack too much fear in these parts.

Teaparty can’t get their way and throw a temper tantrum

from the article:

“Although they experienced success in North Idaho races, libertarian and tea party forces lost badly in most parts of the state in the May 20 GOP primary. But they geared up to keep control of the party at the state convention.

Sen. Chuck Winder, R-Boise, sharply criticized an attempt at the convention to disqualify the entire delegations from three counties.

“It was basically the ultra-, ultra-conservative, tea party-libertarian type people basically flexing their muscle in the way the thing was organized,” said Winder, the state Senate assistant majority leader.

Just as long as it all comes together in the end.

But if the various factions just alienate each other, they’re not going to get anywhere & will just hand power back to the leftists.

The GOP-E doesn't like it when conservatives take the initiative and start to show a little muscle and change the way 'things have been done'. Ha! Serves the establishment right.

Screwed by their own rules.

It’s not a “temper tantrum” — it’s regular people fighting back against the political Establishment that stacks the deck.

If you don’t support the Tea Party, why are you here?

You mean they didn't back down? Well, boo hoo. The GOPe sucks and are helping to ruin America. The Tea Party won't back down in the face of the sell-out statists. Get used to it.

The tantrums are better than the usual running away without a fight.

Sounds to me like the people in Idaho are figuring it out.

I’ve been pushing the idea of taking over the RNC for a while now and hopefully this is a sign.

The Tea Party people have staying power, so I think that when the tide turned against them, the Republican liberals decided to take the ball and go home. It is the sort of petulant juvenile attitude to expect from liberals.

“If I lose than I’ll run as a Democrat!” This is about all you need to know about the core value of liberals.

Yes, value. Singular.
