House committee subpoenas head of IRS to testify on lost Lois Lerner emails

A House committee probing the IRS targeting scandal has subpoenaed Commissioner John Koskinen to testify over the agency’s claims it cannot locate a trove of emails belonging to Lois Lerner, the former agency official at the heart of the scandal.

The IRS outraged congressional investigators Friday by saying it cannot find many of Lerner's emails prior to 2011 because her computer crashed during the summer of that year.

Lerner headed the IRS division that processed applications for tax-exempt status. The IRS acknowledged last year that agents had improperly scrutinized applications for tax-exempt status by Tea Party and other conservative groups.

Rep. Darrell Issa, the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said he is feels the lost email claims are another example of the IRS’ “repeated empty promises of compliance with oversight.”

“I will not tolerate your continued obstruction and game-playing in response to the Committee’s investigation of the IRS targeting,” Issa, R-Calif., said in a letter accompanying the subpoena. “For too long, the IRS has promised to produce requested – and, later, subpoenaed – documents, only to respond later with excuses and inaction.”

Issa subpoenaed Koskinen to appear at a hearing on June 23.

government is REQUIRED to archive, so I don’t believe anything was lost, it was deleted manually.

That would be considered a felony. But like all of the other criminal activities this regime has done it won't matter because NOBODY has the balls to come down on these traitors!

And no matter how you cut it, Obama himself must be implicated in those emails.

Exactly the reason why these “lost” emails have been “lost”.

The emails ( including those of the six Lerner subordinates just announced today as also “lost”) exist on these servers as of this moment.

These emails will spotlight a bright, well-traveled path between Obama(White House) and the IRS.

Use of the IRS by any political entity to harass or impede political organizations for political reasons is a felony on the books.

Therefore, the content of these emails will lead directly to the impeachment and conviction of Barack Hussein Obama on the evidence created by this thick volume of emails (when printed and distributed by legal authorities, since they are non-classifiable as critical security documents).

Obama’s Impeachment & Conviction will be absolutely open-and-shut.

Subpoena the IT people and/or contractors responsible for hardware maintenance

Yup. Those are the people that have to testify.

I'm a professional computer nerd. I can tell you there is no doubt by anyone who works IT for a living that not only are they lying about a hard disk crash destroying data, but they are lying about being able to retrieve it. For them to successfully  purge all copies of those emails would require the destruction of a huge amount of hardware and tapes.

All it takes is for the GOPe to stand up and call 'bullshit' on it, and not even the press would be able to supress it.

Of course, that won't happen because none of them is interested in actually doing anything to combat the banana republic this country has become.

Yes. that's right folks. You live in a banana republic that lacks even the senblance of the rule of law when applied to the ruling classes.

Of course, you and I must dot every 'i' and cross every 't' or the'll storm our homes at 3am and kill our pets, our families, and ourselves if we offer the slightest indication that we might resist. This is what it looks like, folks, when your government goes feral. Sadly too many Americans still think voting still has meaning.

I wrote an article many years ago about what you do to feral governments, but I've seen to have misplaced it. I wonder if one of the NSA/FBI scum that monitor this site could send me a copy. I'm sure you have it somewhere.

I know how to turn on a computer and very little more. And even I know the emails aren’t on my computer. They’re on a server somewhere. Right?

You are spot on. No one has the balls.

Being invaded right now, no one does anything
IRS targets certain groups, Nixon was going to impeached for something similar but no one does anything.
Americans die in Behghazi while the president parties, no one does anything.

When is America going to get sick of this $h!t and do something? Never

I’m tired of these committees acting surprised. Did they really think criminals will provide evidence against themselves?

Forget dragging the IRS chief in for questions. Drag the managers for the IT department in and start asking them questions, with gentle reminders of federal record-keeping policies.

Your post reminds me of dealing with the county zoning and appraisers’ office.

I naively, though not in so many words, asked the question -

“How do I go about complying with the law to do what you don’t want me to do?”

Answer, again, not in so many words: “I won’t tell you.”

They’re on a server somewhere. Right?

Simple test. Unplug your computer from the internet. Now see if you can access your email.
