The Collapsing Obama Doctrine
Wall Street Journal ^ | 6/17/14 | Dick and Liz Cheney

Cheney re Obama: Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many.

As the terrorists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) threaten Baghdad, thousands of slaughtered Iraqis in their wake, it is worth recalling a few of President Obama's past statements about ISIS and al Qaeda. "If a J.V. team puts on Lakers' uniforms that doesn't make them Kobe Bryant" (January 2014). "[C]ore al Qaeda is on its heels, has been decimated" (August 2013). "So, let there be no doubt: The tide of war is receding" (September 2011).

Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many. Too many times to count, Mr. Obama has told us he is "ending" the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan—as though wishing made it so. His rhetoric has now come crashing into reality. Watching the black-clad ISIS jihadists take territory once secured by American blood is final proof, if any were needed, that America's enemies are not "decimated." They are emboldened and on the march.

Obama is the biggest joke to occupy the Oval Office. An utter and complete detriment to all that is noble and worthy.

God bless Dick Cheney

I understand he's not the most popular political figure in the country, but Bush isn't winning any style points or doing the country any favors by being a gentleman and keeping his mouth shut. Its crunch time.

The liberals that voted for the SOB will say it was all Bush’s fault and praise O’bammer for getting out.

Love that, so well said.

Drawing an arc with his finger from Raqqa province in northern Syria to Anbar province in western Iraq, he said, "They will control this territory. Al Qaeda is building safe havens and training camps here. Don't the Americans care?"

Nope. Americans are more concerned about their free abortions, free birth control, homosexual marriage, and other government freebies than they are about finishing off some terrorist network.

Gee, there are 5,000-6,000 State Department weenies at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. How about thinking of them as hostages? Barack’s going to pull off a loss of Iraq that makes Jimmy Carter's loss of Iran look like child's play. I wonder how the Media will blame this on Bush?

If you like your doctrine, you can keep your doctrine. Period.

Skeeter, I agree with that to a certain extent. I will have to tell you it sounds somewhat like “It’s Bush’s fault!” when I read it though.

Should Bush be speaking up? I believe so. If he does it all the time, it really does open the door to past presidents simply neutering good presidents when they come along.

Look at what McCain did to Bush first term. It was just plain lunacy, and I’m not a big Bush fan by any means.

A president has to be given space. This one has had his space, and it is time for someone of stature to explain what they see as potential treason. Perhaps Bush is the guy to deliver that.

The problem once again, is that then the Democrats scream treason every time future good presidents go to the restroom.

Honestly, I don’t know what the answer to this is.

Obama is so far out of bounds these days, someone on the Left must have noticed. In the best case, leading Democrats would out this guy for what he is.

Evidently those days are gone. Goldwater refused to support Nixon and he was done. Now we can’t even get treason addressed by the Democrat counterpart to Goldwater.

Sad really...

Brit Hume last night said something to the effect that Obama is unbelievably incompetent.

Actually that seems like an understatement.

Will the media mock Obama’s premature gloating and incorrect evaluations the way they mocked Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” sign? Of course not.

Yep. And all the gloves should be off. Completely off. To hell with decorum anymore.

The future of the country and every individual American citizen's safety is at stake.

why assume this is not going the way obama wants it?

he wants a worldwide caliphate. he’s doing cartwheels. he’s jubilant. he’s helping bring forth the mahdi.

"Obama has a doctrine? Phhhttt"

Obama DOES have a doctrine: If you like me, assume the position. If you don't like me, assume the position.

Of course, "assume the position" has a different meaning in the two contexts.

If it’s done, it essentially needs to read like an indictment. As many as possible counts need to be documented and nailed.

Individual actions and their ramifications need to be addressed.

One more problem with Bush doing something like this, is that if you do it, you have to go for the family jewels. No pussy-footing around will do.

I’m not sure the guy has that in him. And if he doesn’t, at some point he backs down and Obama looks immaculate for the duration of his life.

He would have had to have a doctrine to collapse. Unless we are talking about his golf game.
