Military Blimps Will Float In Aberdeen, Tracking Potential Threats
CBS Baltimore ^ | June 17, 2014 | Mike Schuh

ABERDEEN, Md. (WJZ)—Soon, Maryland will be the home to a couple of new landmarks. Actually, sky-marks.

As Mike Schuh reports, two large blimps will soon rise over Harford County and stay put.

Radar blimps like these have been used on the battlefield to track the enemy, and in the Caribbean to intercept drug runners.

Testing in Utah is complete. Now they’re being packed up and sent to Maryland.

“There is some equipment already on grounds, yes,” said Kelly Luster, a spokesman for Aberdeen Proving Ground.

What will they be looking for? Anti-ship cruise missiles, unmanned aircraft and swarming boats.

These blimps are a lot like a toy balloon. They are unmanned and are held in place by a very long tether.

Ubiquitous smaller versions of the Aerostat once used to try to catch illegals based at Sierra Vista, AZ.

Now, there is not need to spot illegals, but rather to provide a stationary drone platform from which to control those pesky citizens who will not conform.

Maryland and Virginia are pretty much wholly-owned territories of DC at this point.

How many .22 shots does it take to bring one down, I wonder.

Oh I can't see any problem with that...

“Now, there is not need to spot illegals.....”

Obama wants to move a bunch of minor illegals to the Aberdeen Testing Gounds there, so maybe there’s a chance INS will once again use blimps to monitor illegals.

It can spot incoming missiles or aircrafts up to 340 miles out and can track vehicles on the ground up to 140 miles away, meaning its effective ground vision area is 62,000 miles. Raytheon envisioned it as something that could sit on an army base in, say, Iraq or Afghanistan to allow the military to spot threats many miles away.

Is there a Navy base close to Aberdeen Proving Ground?

I live in Aberdeen. Probably within target range of where they will be flying.

Kind of a cool place to live. Random explosions rattle the windows, see some weird vehicles once in a while.
