Regulators to Force the Metric System on Natural Gas Fuel Customers
PickensPlan ^

Posted on 06/18/2014 9:44:21 AM PDT by shove_it

Utilization of natural gas as a motor fuel has been steadily increasing since new domestic production of this natural resource began in the mid-2000s. It has provided businesses with a cheaper and cleaner way to operate their vehicle fleets. Additionally, elected policymakers have supported adoption of natural gas motor fuel as a strategy to achieve energy independence.

Unfortunately, just as natural gas is starting to penetrate the commuter vehicle market, regulators are making a hard push to force consumers to purchase natural gas motor fuel in kilograms. The National Conference of Weights and Measures (NCWM), which is comprised of state weights and measures officials, is attempting to pass this new regulation at their annual meeting in mid-July.

Consumers, elected officials, industry stakeholders and the market place have built a consensus around gallon equivalents as the method of sale. Click on your state below to send an email to your governor and state weights and measures official to let them know you support gallon equivalents (live links at the article).

We do not want to know our heights in centimeters. But go ahead, while we further decrease consumption and watch the defaults happen. We’ll fix the problems, when manipulative morons are through playing.

"BTU is not a metric unit, but a clumsy engineer’s archaicism."

It's still the thermal standard in English language metric nations.

"The metric unit of energy is the Joule."

Not for thermal. Like it or not, solar hydronic, drainback heating system installations will increase with or without anti-competition regulations pushed by one-world morons. They can't successfully see and regulate against everything. They can't even get close to doing so without going too far and falling down.

For all others reading this, the BTU is the unit used to measure energy used to heat or cool water (or energy supplied by water heating or cooling) in degrees, Fahrenheit.

Stuff the fuels vended to slaves by anti-American globetrotters. There are all kinds of fuels.

You're more than welcome. Join the lowtechs. Avoid buying anything that you don't really need. Always study, plan, design and build to become more self-sufficient. Learn to manufacture something useful as a hobby for now. Leave politics to those bipartisan folks who are influential during their moment before bond collapses and defaults. Tomorrow is ours.

I apologize for getting off-topic, and thank you for the link to information on gasoline gallon equivalents. Adding gasoline gallon equivalents for natural gas and other fuels would be fine.

It’s kinda hard for me to get my head around a gallon of electricity. It reminds me of my mess sergeant many moons ago sending rookie privates on a fools errand over to Charlie Co. mess hall for a bucket of steam.

Exactly! I believe they sell gas by the liter in Europe.

In Thailand, too. When I was stationed there, one day one of my tasks was to measure the fuel consumption of a stationary gasoline engine. I asked my Thai assistant to go buy a gallon can, intending to see how long the engine would take to use it up. He returned with a one-liter can, saying it was illegal to sell gallon cans. Of course, that served just as well, and took me less time to make the measurement.

For temperatures in the range we normally encounter, this rule of thumb works well: multiply Celsius by 2 and add 30 to get Fahrenheit. Or, subtract 30 from Fahrenheit and divide by 2 to get Celsius.

Sell the way they sell now. By the Therm.
Since the heat capacity of natural gas varies with the chemical composition, all sellers must comply as in master meter operators.

And I've always had an intellectual attachment to a temperature of -40°C.

What is the motivation for measuring natgas in units other than gallon equivalents?

For liquified natural gas, you can use gallons. For compressed natural gas, you need some unit of weight.

Mass is the most accurate way to measure a quantity of a substance.

take the entire metric system and shove it up your backside!

You have difficulty calculating with the number 10, multiples of ten, and tenths?

Really?

It’s a metric world...has been for decades.

Maybe that’s why we have no manufacturing, the world doesn’t want to buy weird products made with our oddball measuring system’s nuts and bolts.

In fact, I’ll bet you barely can work American measurement and weight standards yourself.
